Lost my route!

Hi.
I was messing around with archives and things, and had a big computer crash, and for the first time since I started in Trainz, I seem to have genuinely lost some assets including a route that I've been working on for years!:(

Unfortunately I was preparing to upload a route, and therefore stripped out all the local and original stuff from my backup installation! But I am confident that it is safely in the backups folder, and the date of the backup is 12-26-12 so it's recent. But what is the correct way to install stuff from the backup folder back into Trainz? (TS12)
I haven't found instructions for this anywhere by searching on "restore from backup" etc.

Thanks,
A somewhat nervous Mick Berg.

Go into CMP's File->Import Content->{select backup folder}. Since we're talking about years' worth of work here, I recommend backing up anything that could be potentially erased; ideally, back up the entire Trainz installation to an external disk before re-importing the backup. The reason being, sometimes you end up restoring the wrong thing. Happens all the time in computers, even to those of us who are diligent about backups.

Thanks for a super-quick reply, RR.

I'll do as you say re backing up the installation. Fingers crossed!
Thanks,
Mick.

Hi Mick. Just noticed this thread. You do realise if all else fails there is one more option you can try. PM me.

Well all is well thanks to the Trainz backup system.

I now have my install backed up on all four of the hard drives in the 'puter.

It isn't a good idea to use your backup install to create clean installs for testing, by deleting half your content!!:o

All I am trying to do is create archives of the route and session, so that people don't have to run around finding missing dependencies. It's quite a challenge.

Thanks all,

Mick.
