Looking to get back into trainz!

Race Cars and Trains
So I have been away from Trainz for some time and want to get back into it with a new Gaming Laptop. Currently have TS12 on my desktop which is not worth upgrading(more to story).Sorry if i have to many questions.

1- whats the best way to transfer my TS12 local folder from my desktop to my laptop? I plan on adding a 500gb Samsung Evo SSD(internal) in my laptop and running trainz on that , with that said would it be best to get a USB connector and transfer my folder from Desktop to the new SSD before putting in new laptop?

2- Is T:ane worth getting right now and how much better then TS12 is it. To me I only see certain items show a difference like the Built in locomotives etc. I mostly build routes.

3- I plan on buying this and adding RAM so its 16gb and the EVO SSD just for trainz. leave the OS on the stock HDD

Will this run T:ane smooth on high settings ? Thank you !!!

Hi Andrew,

Simply copy your User Data folder. This will grab everything including stuff you downloaded as well as routes and sessions you have created. You can then reinstall on your laptop then copy your userdata folder over to the folder where you installed TS12 and overwrite the one you have in there. If you have any questions, when you get to this point, please fire away and we can help.

T:ANE is worth getting (some people may say otherwise), but before we make any recommendations is it possible to post the rest of your system specs? Keep in mind that T:ANE, like all versions of Trainz it seems, is going through some teething problems right now which are being addressed. For the most part, content made for TS12 and is error free should work in T:ANE. Most errors though can be fixed are really easy to do that too. Post if you need help with that. :)

The RAM is highly recommended as that is definitely needed for T:ANE. T:ANE, unlike previous versions of Trainz or even many games for that matter, is a true 64-bit application. This means it will make use of the RAM you have installed. You will also need a 64-bit operating system such a Windows 7 64-bit and up. It will not work on XP or the 32-bit versions of the Windows operating systems such as Windows 7, or Windows 8.1, or even the 32-bit version of Windows 10. Installing the extra RAM won't hurt TS12 or help a lot but it will help your operating system get out of the way while TS12 is running. TS12 is a 32-bit application which can only address up to 4GB no matter how much RAM you have installed.

T:ANE performance is affected by the content like all versions of Trainz. I currently run at the middle-high settings and have great performance, no stutters which we are so familiar with, and it's gorgeous to run a session in. I have found that the very highest settings don't seem to matter much right now and only make the system run slower. Like anything related to Trainz and computers, you'll have to fiddle with it to get it to work for you. The good news is there are no longer those drops in content in Driver and Surveyor which are very disappointing. My current setup is running with textures, trees, and water set high, shadows high (not ultra), and 8000 meter draw distance. I've tried 10000 meter and it's okay, but 15,000 is too much on my system.

But before you get your hopes up for that, please post your system specs so we can help you. Your laptop may or may not be able to run T:ANE due to the graphics card. Yes, it doesn't like the Intel built-in and lower-end ATI (AMD) and low-end NVidia cards of course.

I think I answered your questions. Feel free to post more. :)

I would say this machine should be fine. The NVIDIA GTX 965M is a sweet video card. :)

Go for the 32GB of RAM it's worth it along with the nice 550GB ssd.
