Looking for uk speed boards

Some thoughts I did have involved one or more of these ideas.
  • Reading the headcode as set using the VSR headcode driver command.
  • A driver command to set the speed category explicitly.
  • Using an extension in config files to allocate each coach / wagon / unit to a speed category (defaulting to the basic "freight" category) and assessing the effective category for the train (something along the lines of the VSR Max Permitted Speed rule.) This option would probably involve a lot of processing every time a train passed a speedboard, and slow everything down to a crawl.
The first two might be more efficient, but it would be up to the driver of an unfitted goods not to set headcode 1M34 and similarly not to declare the train as a Class 390!

Trouble is that the scripting goalposts seem to be on castors these days!

Incidentally, I did implement a few rail and road signs via a mesh library a few months back. At the time I included several meshes with the intention of using them in assets, but never got "a round tuit".

Those meshes include a set of round speedboards for limits from 5mph to 125mph in 5mph steps, plus boards for 3mph, 8mph and 12mph. As far as I know assets can access libraries with a different top-level KUID, so anyone who'd like to save themselves a little effort is welcome to reference these meshes from their own config files.

Or not reference them, as you wish. :)

The library is KUID2:209453:23100:2 and the mesh names are lxxxmph.im, where xxx is the speed limit in mph including leading zeroes, so that the 12mph speedboard is named l012mph.im.

Yes, I did have a thought that I might do some metric versions as well.

Thanks for that I think I have most of the textures made up now though but will look into them if I need some more.

I've made some great progress with the sign just got a few texture problems & some script errors to sort out and then I think the scenery sign will be completed.

Only just noticed this thread - would have posted much earlier if I realised it was here!

Some of you may have noticed that I have recently uploaded a set of standard speed signs onto the DLS. These are scenery objects, and include the sign only (not the post) - this allows almost infinate flexibility and allows placement on walls, gantries etc etc. I have also taken great care to ensure that the correct fonts and dimensiones are used (mostly taken from photographs, with minor touch-ups using a signage document that nexusdj kindly linked me to). Both the large (900mm) and small (450mm) signs are available.

Next up will be the directional arrows (just trying to sort out a lighting issue at the moment before upload), and then I will be creating differential signs and signs for specific classes. These are scenery objects, so it won't solve the issue of setting different speeds on the track in Trainz, but it will mean realistic, freeware signs.

Sorry for raining on your parade, Russel. Like I say, if I noticed this thread earlier, I would have posted immediately! My apologies for that.

The big advantage with speed signs as scenery objects is that they can be rolled. After all, most of the real-life speedboards that I've seen have posts that aren't vertical, but lean over at a jaunty angle.

DavidBrown - whats the kuids for your signs?

looking forward to seeing how this all turns out, also can i request right handed signs? hopefully davidbrowns signs will help in the mean time but its anoying having a four track section and a speed board happens to apear in the midle of the next track

Hi

With regard to the multiple speed signs on one post, wouldn't it be possible to place a trackmark beside or before the scenery speed sign and use a driver command such as Navigate Via trackmark followed by NikkiA's driver command Set Maximum Speed To. This would place the maximum speed into each trains driver commands and thus give individual control for each train.

Regards

Brian

Dan the joy with this is you can put it anywhere you want, there will be an extra one which will be invisible which sits in the track.

I'm just having some problems getting the multi EPS speed to work I have everything else working as I want it to.

I am making progress although slow as scripting is not my area and it's taking more time than I thought.

Cheers Rusty.

Good luck with that. I would love to find some myself so please let us know if you come across something like that. It would be great to have such a thing for use on a route that could be distributed.

PFX,

I've got the scenery speed sign all finished last night (it was hard work).

I'm thinking of doing a version without posts as-well and I'm also going to look at making a track-side version for all that can't be bothered to try and place it in the right spot.

Now to work on the next part which I shall try and start today.

Cheers Rusty.

Rusty, those look like the dogs'. Excellent job. I take it your signs cover single limits too?

Silly me!!! I'm looking forward to seeing these Rusty and rest assured, they will be on all my modern image routes.

I'm revisiting something I started in TS09 - ChileanLlama's Rosworth Vale. He gave me permission to update it and I had made a start on trackwork type/alignments and setting the boards to 5m grid under the track. I had been using the Railwaves signs on the last one but since I'm starting afresh in TS10, this will put your versions to the test.

Excellent work Rusty , any chance you could provide a set with double posts on the ones with 3 boards attached as I've seen quite a few on my travels with double posts in the areas where they are exposed to possible high winds (stops them being twisted around the post)

Double post won't be a problem give me some time and see what I can do,

any chance of a picture of one?

The possibility with this sign is endless.

A good place I found for signs is here www.railsigns.co.uk

But it doesn't show posts etc.

Cheers Rusty.

With these signs pending, could this be the final glaring gap in modern UK trackside plugged?

I would suggest round if you want to stick to prototype though I can't say I'd noticed from your shots, that the post is square.

Ok I'll knock up round posts later on.

Done a quick knock up with double posts as per nexusdj request

might want a little bit of tweaking.

Sorry for bad screen I'm working on the lappy tonight...

Cheers Rusty.
