Looking for TranzDEM help

Here is what I have so far. I would like to know if this is the right aproach or if I am missing a step.Hit I have loaded in my first raster map (ANCA1.jpg)
Then I load my placemark data, (ANCA1.kmz)
then I have converted the purple grid into UTM so that they are 1000mx1000m. I have saved those 2 files, ANCA1_georef.png and ANCA1_georef.trf
NOW is when everything goes wrong for me and TRAINZ12. I have exitedTransDem and started it again to get a clean empty version running, and load my DEM data. Then loaded my raster maps one by one.
I can not seem to find a folder to export these images to and I do not have any import information in Trainz12. I have think I have read that tutorial twice and all I have done is given myself one heck of a headache. These forums have been much more help. Thanks to everyone for the help.

The "Muengsten" tutorial in the TransDEM Trainz manual (page 41) shows the different types of geo data used during the export process:

  • The DEM, digital elevation data for your route. For a US route I recommend USGS NED DEMs. The DEM is a "must have" for the export to Trainz.
  • A map, scale about 1:50,000 for the ground textures. USGS 1:24,000 will also do, but requires the 5m terrain grid, available since TS2009. Source could be a Map Tile provider, like Open Street Map, or a WMS provider like MS Research Maps.
  • Some basic vector data to mark the course of the route. Can be created manually with the Simple Route Editor in TransDEM.
  • Optionally: Aerial images, like Google Earth, for areas which need more detail. These will go onto UTM tiles, hovering texture carrier objects for large scale ortho imagery or large scale plans. The Muengsten tutorial uses 1:5,000 scale maps here.

I guess I might end up going with USGS. And as far as the tutorial. I am not able to do that either. I cant seem to find Muengsten either or the DEM to do it. I might just uninstall the Tranzdem and reinstal it. Either way it seems like I am missing something or other. I have a 9 year boy that can do a 4x4 rubix quicker then I can do this.

The TransDEM manuals are available:
  1. from TransDEM itself, either via the Help and Trainz menus, via the toolbars or via keyboard shortcuts [F1] and [Shift]+[F1],
  2. from the Windows Start menu: Programs | Ziegler-Tools | Documentation (Windows XP)
  3. directly from the file location, e.g. C:\Program Files\Ziegler-Tools\Dokumentation

The sample data for the "Muengsten" is also part of the installation package.
