Looking for Small American Coaches.

Your welcome, of course I did them for myself. :D
Pic removed...

Edit: Note that because these sit so low they don't couple visually to standard height link n' pin couplers.

This was an issue even for the real deal. Some of the link and pin coupled locos had multiple slots for various height drawbars. Here's a model of course, but I've seen the same setup in real life. in museums.

In a case like this, I could probably modify the bogies if I am asked nicely. an additional thought, I may be able to adjust the coupler height if it is important.

That would be great Peter! My SG versions of your coaches are a kluge at best. Feel free to use my attachment.im and the passenger text in the config.txt from <kuid:633834:140010> SG Small Generic Coach Green and <kuid:633834:140011> SG Small Generic Coach Red if you wish. It would be very nice to have the link and pin coupler at a standard gauge height too. BTW 3ft and 2ft versions for the North County route would be handy. :D (I tried but they had even worse problems than the SG ones)

For those who don't know narrowgauge did a 42" version <kuid2:44700:19968:1> 42 Taltal Coach #1 and <kuid2:44700:19969:1> 42 Taltal Coach #2 and a 30" version <kuid:44700:18216> 30 PBR 1 NB which is where I got the mesh and textures from.

OK

What are the coupler heights?

Just to get things straight. It seems that the following is required.
1: Taltal bogies currently 42" adjusted to standard gauge, 36", 24? Is this the only bogie type?
2: Couplers on coaches set to new heights. To be advised as soon as possible? Type of coupler and KUID needed? Also need to know the front-of-car to a.LIMFRONT dimension?
3: What coaches of my manufacture are required to have this surgery?

Just had another thought. I think it may be possible to provide attachments for individual coupler heights. I stress the 'maybe possible'. As I visualise it there would be a stack of 3 or 4 bogie attachments and I provide 2 or 3 invisible dummies to keep CM happy.

Talking of CM, I use T:ane, if this is a problem I will hand out individual inserts for Pev's Attachment Maker which I will also use for my additions. Users can then add whatever coupler they want to use. Comments?

Here are the Taltal bogies in three gauges, Standard, 36" and 24"

To use them you need to modify the config.txt of the traincar as follows

Change the bogey number to:-

Standard gauge <kuid:44700:509598>

36" gauge <kuid:44700:509593>

24" gauge <kuid:44700:509594>

At the same place, change the value of "Reversed" to 1. If you don't do this the wheels will rotate in the wrong direction.

You must also change the original 44700:509595 number in the KUID Table to the new number. If you want to run multiple gauges, clone the traincar.

A different subject.

Changing coupler heights is not difficult but as the current couplers are matched to the traincar body frame height, increasing the height could look wrong.

Thoughts????

Does it really matter?

Peter,

tender's a.limback Z=

SG 0.890

NG36 0.833

NG24 0.600

Not sure that was what you wanted.

Here is what I was thinking might work for a coupler

These are by prowler901 and bdaneal, I don't know if there is a mesh of this floating around. A simpler one, just a block with some openings at the right heights might work.

Hey there Norm! Thanks so much for the incredible amount of input and advice you have provided us all on them' old American Pot Boilers! :) I have always had an interest in almost all American and British locomotives... and a secondary interest in the early American, and British. (Speaking of the British) JohnWhelan had -of course- built some early "Pot Boilers" himself. "The Rocket"; "Lion"; and "Thunderbolt" to which have the matching tenders as well.

One thing I just can't understand is why Ben (BDaNeal): the "Norris 4-2-0"; and John Whelan never got 'round [or anyone else for that matter] to making the passenger carriages and wagons for their respective engines and tenders?

But thanks to you, and your suggestions of small "V&T passenger coaches" which will surely do nicely tagging along with those "ancient" Pot Boiler's on our routes, until more suitable (passenger) carriages/wagons come along... er' hopefully! Also thanks to your knowledge of such things, I now have a "B&O York" engine and tender -I had not known of until today!!!

OH-H MY!!! Why thank you Norm! :Y: George Takei's catchphrase was all I could say to myself, upon visitin' the link you had provided me! Thank you ever so much! :) Now without further ado, I have much to download tonight :udrool:

'BOUT SUMS IT UP FOR ME!!! :hehe: My new PC "wallpaper" -heh, heh! :udrool: To think I've downloaded most of "your" toys today; let's just say, I'll sleep sounder tonight... thanks to you -LOL! :D

Narrowgauge, the 36 bogies work fine and the coupler lines up fine too!

Thanks!

Edit: 24" bogies look fine too, couplers don't line up by a little but...

Thanks again for your help!

The engineers of the Northbay RR and Gossen RR always time their arrival at the crossing to thrill their excursion customers. With much blowing of whistles and wild gesticulations of despair they ham it up terribly to the delight of all.

(no pixels were harmed in the process of taking this screenie)

Ah Ha! In another thread someone pointed out that I had not included the Rocket and the Lion in my "historic" screenie. British railroading is a slippery slope that I try to avoid but the Rocket definitely belonged in that screenie. While poking around in other things created by blue I found these.

blue's <kuid2:55976:10001:1> Traveller and <kuid2:55976:10003:1> Thirdclass. So far as I know these are the earliest rail coaches in trainz.

Lion and Thunderbolt also by blue in background. I think PaulzTrainz has some open passenger coaches of this era too.
