Looking for Kid-Friendly train sim with NO BUGS

As a owner of all the Trainz versions I would go with 04'. It's the most user friendly with no sound problems and is easy to download stuff from the DLS or anywhere else into it. As for 06' and 09' they have too many problems with them. Go with 04' and be happy.

Fragmented community.....

FRAGMENTED COMMUNITY - I like this version. No, I'd recommend this version. No, No, No, I like this version better. Oh No, this version is much better than that version, Na, you don't know what your talking about, that versions to buggy, this one's much better, and the debate goes "on & on", and "on & on", and "on & on"................ (it'll still be going "on & on" in 5 to 10 years time). :hehe:

Let's face it, this 04 verses 06 has been going on since 06 was launched. Now we have the 04 verses 06 - TC3 - 09 WBE debate.
To me, they are all great versions. I've/I am enjoying them all... Try them all, and see which one the little ones like the best. (the cost won't break the bank)...

To me, the only real way forward for Trainz's in the 21st century is for Auran to keep pushing the envelope. The price we have to be prepared to pay if we are going to move forward in leaps & bounds is, software with some bugs that is going to take a while to sort out.
(when 04 came out, we had the same old complaints about buggy software). Sure it took 4 service packs to get it right, but they eventually did).
I'm sure they will get 09 right in time. Reading some of the posts in TrainzDev confirms to me that they are working hard to get it right, (and I believe they are making good progress)....

Dale, my advice to you now is get any of THESE versions of Trainz; 04, 06, TC3 or 09. Whatever version/s you decide to get, I'm sure your young ones will love it... (you can always review things in 6 to 12 months time if their interest is still strong).
Cheers, Mac... ;)

I do wonder if, when Dale reads this thread, he might just run away screaming and buy his son a toy car instead?! :hehe:

Does Trainz have to be so complicated?

Apparently, some of the KIDS are playing RS. Here's hoping that they enjoy it and stay over there.

Mouse, not knocking your comments here, but why would you prefer to see kids playing RS than Trainz's ???
Some of "today's Trainz's kids" will eventually become "tomorrow's Trainz's creators"
Cheers, Mac... :)

I have only had experience with Trainz 2006, but I felt like a kid the 1st time I opened the North Bay County sessions. My nephew is 5 and he loves it too. I pretty much hang around and help him, but thats quality time with the little booger anyway.

I really don't think it matters which version the child is using. The adults are the ones that worry about compatibility and what not. If the kid plays the built-in routes with known working sessions, then the issue is mute.

Go with TS2009 and if there are concerns about old content, then run the program in compability mode.

Nearly every time when I use Trainz, my 2 year old niece comes into the room to watch the trains. One day I asked what sound a train makes, and she repied Woooo, wooo for the steam locomotive I was running. At 2 she doesn't care whether it's TRS2004, TRS2006, or TS2009. She only cares that there are trains running.

i don't think there's any such thing as NO bugs, anywhere in real life. even the human operating system has them.

and while none of us love frustration, i'm not so sure anyone is ever too young (or too old) to learn this.

we live in a statistical universe and all anyone can do is improve the odds, or make them worse.

denying diversity to explore as a means of reducing frustration, well in any absolute sense i question that seriously. having a simple suite of more obvious command and an absolute simple way to restore from semi-hidden from accidental invocation more advanced ones, to me that would be an approach to "kid friendly".

but to narrow options absolutely and arbitrarily, it is the nature of the young of all species to seek to explore. that is how we grow up and learn. and to block that, isn't at all friendly to the nature of childhood, growing up and learning.

just my thoughts, whatever the're worth. there are some uber simplified sims out there, i forget where, there's several sites on line that have indexes and links of all sorts of train sims, so such a thing MIGHT exist, but i really think not talking down to them with crippled options is a better and healthier approach.

same problem

It is the only version that refuses to let me commit any content in Cmp
regardless of if it is in the form of a CDP or content from another version for eg 06 or TC3 content.
Any content I try to commit gets these messages
Error: Texture compression failed for file
Failed to commit changes to asset due to file access error.
This leaves the content open for edit with no way of committing it.

I have the same problem as robin_hoods, except that there is some content that imports just fine. Still there is hundreds of items that can't be committed. Most of it is from DLS, and none is marked as faulty. texture2tga wont't help, because .tga and .texture.txt files are seperate. It seems that none of those items are found on DLS by CM2. However TRS2006 Content Manager indicates that they are still there on DLS.

My grandson was 3 and a bit when he started on Transport Tycoon.
He moved on to Locomotion when he was 5.
He was 6 when I setup The Original Trainz now at 7 he loves 2004.
He doesn't worry too much about scenery most of the time, lays down tracks and makes up his trains then runs like a dispatcher(like Poppy), with signals.
He has never had a crash with 2004.
I get a few crashes on mine because I am testing the bounds of my old laptop.

I bought the Trainz Collection with UTC,2004,2006 & Paint Shed, as well as collections of extra routes for 2006.
