Looking for Bridge bascule with road and rail(s)

Hello everybody,

I'm looking for an object like the bridge bascule 1 ( contains road ) which contains not only road, but has also rails ( 1 track or 2 tracks ) on it.

Does anyone know of the existence of such an object? Can you give me the name or creator or kuid?

Thank you

Best regards

Kurt,
Your best option when creating a rail and road bridge is to use a blank bridge and add the track and roadway separately.

If you need help on finding some splines that'll suit and need further help, let me know. I can get screenshots when I finish updating my local and rebuilding my database.

Cheers,
Joshua

Hello Joshua,

Thank you for your reply.

I still have to find the time to learn how to create objects. Up to now, I have been busy with the route creation and the elements within.
I have saved some tutorials about creating objects in a special folder on my ext. harddisk. It would be easy, if all bridges would be the same. However, this is not so. In some cases, I can use the bridge bascule 1 ( animated ).

Do you know if a animated blank bascule bridge exist?

My first route has a double element

First of all, I'm creating a tramroute, which follows for a great deal the Belgian coast. I have found Trmwy rails only ( track section ).

But I will also create a part of the Belgian railroadtrack, to be specific ( West-Vlaanderen ( Province within Belgium ). With this, I will be busy for at least a few years :D .

Best regards

While I've made a number of road and rail bridges, many of which are interactive, I've never made a bascule bridge. I have made a few that combine road and rail but if I remember correctly the road and rails are on separate levels, not the same level.

Finally - keep in mind an interactive bridge uses invisible track for trains and/or cars to cross on. If you use an intractive bridge which is for cars only and place track on it that track will be floating in mid-air when the bridge opens. It will not move. Gonna look mighty weird, lol.

To Stagecoach, Fran 1 and Bendorsey

Thank you for your reply. :)

I have been busy, since 1200Lt, looking at all the bridge-creations made by Stagecoach and especially Bendorsey.

I have found several possibilities which will be usefull in other parts of my first route, however along the track there are 2 bascule bridges and several swing bridges. Have a look at the pictures.

I want to make the route as realistically as possible. For this, I probably will have to make the bridges myself. But, I still have to learn how to create an object in a specific program ( Gmax, blender, etc ... ).

I have never been an artist with technical drawings, so this job will probably be a struggle :(

Now my question - Looking at the pictures, will it be possible to create those bridges?

Up to now, I haven't found a tutorial which explains me how to build a bridge in a reasonable simple way and I have no idea how to start :o

So, all info is welcome.

Best regards

Its certainly possible to make them using either Blender or Gmax but you will need to learn a heck of a lot by making smaller items first to get the hang of whichever 3d drawing program you chose. I use Gmax but a lot of folks like Blender which is a bit newer I believe.

There really is no simple way to build a bridge unless it is simple to start with. Neither of these is. Furthermore if they open and you want them interactive (open at the approach of a boat in the water which has been setup as a loco runing on invisible track) you will have to learn animation as well. Both are very bad candidates for a first item.

Finally if you can get more photos and basic dimensions I can make them for you. Overall length, width, width of the roadway, width of the walkways, height, height above the water, track centers, photos of the ends and one from the side.

Moin,

Vulcan has created two german bridges of this type, original located in Stralsund and Wolgast (East germany, they are the bridges to the islands Usedom and Ruegen).
Because we together hasn´t finished the traffic anytime, they are still in beta stadium.

If you want try them out, you have to register at http://www.ecsjoko.eu/news.php.
Go into "Download-DB", then "Kategorien".
Search the entry "Betaobjekte" and you can download this awesome bridges.

When you create a bridge that uses both boats and trains you cant build the tracks into the bridge asset. The bridge will read both the boat track and train track as a single trigger. In my little ATLS demo the bridge is only connected to the road while the boat and train track are layed across or through the bridge and operate from ATLS control. An ATLS slave controls the opening and shutting of the bridge. You can lay track up to the point that opens and then use invisible track to span the opening. The opening part of the bridge then needs track attached to it which is cosmetic only. This allows the track to look as if it opens with the bridge.
In my demo the Tocumwal Bridge 3 does not have rail track on it so does not show on the lifting section. For it to match correctly You would need to ask Bendorsey to attach rail only track to the lift section only to blend in.

Wondered what happened to that bridge as I was hoping to use it sometime. Vulcan sent me the bridge to look at sometime ago.

Hello stagecoach,

Thank you for the information. Ref your post 6 into 1 will go. I downloaded your demo. But I still have to figure out how ATLS works :) .

Best regards

Kurt

ATLS is quite easy if you start on the basic set ups and can go on to complicated things like the operation of the bridge in the demo. I keep trying to push it beyond its intentions to see what it can do. Each set up in the demo has all the parts in the red zones next to them. You will need to check the properties of the assets already set up to get the settings that where used as these vary a lot.

Moin,

Stagecoach, maybe using your ATLS tryouts and demo will help a lot to let the cars stop while the bridge are open.
Without that the traffic cars don´t stop, so its look not so good if a car drive in the air.
Unfortunately i havn´t use the ATLS system yet so it looks i have to learn it to get the bridge right to work.
Maybe, if you have time anytime, you will create a one board modul with the bridge and all that ATLS-things that needed to let it work?
Just an idea, not a must :)

Hi Guys,

I had emailed Kurt about those bridges, and sent him the link to download Stagecoach's latest demo of the ATLS system. This demo is well worth trying, it shows a lot of possibilities for controlling bridges and other assets, I downloaded it yesterday to try again.

The German bridges are normally in the down position, being activated by ships, trains did not stop for the open bridge. Don and I did get the bridges to operate correctly, stopping trains by using triggers on all the tracks, before the ATLS system was available, but the road traffic was still a problem.

Perhaps I should upload the bridges to the DLS now that ATLS can assist.

Thanks Stagecoach for the updated demo:

One issue with downloading the demo (or any session with non built-in rules) is that Driver Rules are not automatically retrieved with the route. Though it shows no missing dependencies in CMP, when you go into Surveyor the "bug" lists a couple of missing rules, downloading and installing these, it then lists further missing rules. I had to go through the process five times to get all the rules required. I recommend you have a look at the demo if your are new to ATLS.

Hello Don,

What kind of electrical trains are driving on the Bascule lift Bridge 3 German?

I also tried some trams, but no pantograph of the available trams reaches up to the catenary.

Best regards

Moin Kurt,

The bridge support all german electrical trains.

Hope that helps a bit?

@Keith: Sorry, hasn´t time the last time to try out but many thanks to you...
