Looking for an exotic steam locomotive / passenger train

Thai1On

Slave to my route
Sometime ago I thought I saw an articulated train much like the Zephyr, but it was steam driven. I must be mistaken as I thought it was a Bessemer unit but nothing shows up in CM and I'm sure I saw it on the DLS. The one thing that stood out in the description was it had a "flash boiler".

Thanks for any help on the Trainz or prototype of this engine.

Hi Dave,

Look for user pweiser. Paul created the Bessemer a year or two ago. It may have NH in the name as in New Haven.

"Power combine (baggage/coach) of the Besler Steam Train, 1938-1944, New Haven road number 9210. The Besler steam system ran at 1200psi, produced 500hp and a top speed over 80mph, and its flash boiler could get steam up in 4 minutes from a cold start."

"Besler Steam Train" by pweiser, <kuid:520526:1416>

:)

Edit: John beat me to it. (I owe you a beer)

You are very welcome, while we are on the subject you might want to check out pweiser's NH Comet which was diesel powered and whitepass' UP M1000 which was gasoline powered, I think.

Interesting bit of history I didn't know about...

Did you know they actually fitted such an engine to an airplane in the 30s? And yes, it did fly - quite well from what I'm reading.

I agree with Frogpipe on reading about Besler steam inventions, very cool. This is going to work well with my vision the world for my route where oil is too scarce and expensive to be used as an everyday fuel. Coal well be vastly more plentiful and cheap and steam will be king.

The steam driven cars and airplanes will complete this vision. Thank you Mr. Besler :hehe:.
