looking for a nice long usa route...

drrt4

ಠ_ಠ....What?
...ive looked for USA routes on dls but i come up empty handed (by empty handed i mean nothing good) so i am going trainz forum, im looking for suggestions for a great American route, POST AWAY! all post are appreciated.

I'm currently working on the CSX River Line, which runs from Jersey City NJ to Selkirk, NY, and is about 150 miles long.
I have not even 1/10 of the route populated with scenery, about 1/3 has signaling.

This route will not fit in DLS, so when I do get it into a state of acceptable completion, I will have to make it available on my own website (which I do not yet own).

I am sure you can find completed routes of 50+ miles, but as was already stated, you won't find on DLS.
There are several sites that have routes.
One is TPR (Trainz pro routes) at: http://www.trainzproroutes.com/downloads/

You may need to sign up to dl, but it's free.

I rarely download routes, as my favorite activity in Trainz is building routes.
BTW; my Riverline route is prototypical to a point;
It was generated using TransDem, so the terrain is correct.
I placed track, and roads using TransDem and Google Earth, so the track is correct. I even have switches, passing tracks, etc properly located, thanks to the high quality of Google Earth maps and Microsoft Bing maps.

My big problem though has been finding prototypical looking buildings. There aren't enough of them for US routes in DLS or elsewhere, so I have to improvise.
That is where my prototype railroad comes to an end. I have found it to be too tedious to look for the right buildings, so I just decided to wing it.

Good luck in finding your US route.

If you want a really long route that will test the limits of your computer try UMR 2009 by neil smith. It is on the DL station and has a session available that sets up the industries.

Very scenic route and well done. Its given me hours of enjoyment. I believe he is currently redoing this route so that it will run in TS2010 native mode.

Clovis Sub from Check Rail is really nice, especially for freeware. TrainzItalia has a few nice ones if you join and register. Platinum membership is around $40 if I remember correctly, but Sherman Hill was worth it to me, and so was Rollins Pass. And of course Gfisher's routes, but some aren't very long.

Hey buddy, if it's any consolation, the tracks and signals are what's most important to me. I haven't done modelling in TS but want to very badly.

I'm the type of guy who likes to make a model as accurate a representation as possible - to the point of being anal - but I've learned over the years that it's usually better to wing it rather than have an unfinished product no one will see.

The cool thing, especially about computer modelling is that, most likely, somebody (including you) can always contribute to the build later on. Heck, you might even build a loyal following of contributors! Isn't Trainz itself a testimony to that? Then you can re-release an updated version of your product! :)

"long" i mean sumthing scenic sumthing i can sit back and enjoy the seanrey, and i can watch the huge powerfull locos hard at work, im thing of about....100 mile route, i allso dont want to be alone, i would prefer AI'S on the route, or the hole route controlled by AI'S, that would be a good route, if i haft to make sum stops on the route that's cool to. thanks for posting!

Being in MSTS from the start, Trainz is something new to me now and I can relate to your topic. The funny thing was I was getting bored with the 5+ hour activities in some routes and was looking for something smaller.

I can also relate to wanting to see AI. With a programming background it appears there is tons of untapped potential available in scripts. I'm basically looking for a random experience when I run my routes, so I'm going to be heading in that direction when I figure things out.

I was a little scared when I first got the program. But I'm starting to appreciate it's potential and there is more than meets the eye.

Thanks

Sean

Search the Download Station with "philskene" as the author.

Tell me if this is what you are looking for.

Thanks for the plug :)

@drrt4 - there are complete AI driven sessions for both Clovis1 and Clovis2 in which you can just sit back and enjoy. If you want lots of traffic, long trains and heavy modern locos, then the C1 session might suit better but that is just 60 miles or so.

The C2 session 'One Way Traffic' is just on 3 hours long and covers 120 miles, but the 'fun' train is a short ballast special loitering along behind a trio of SD40-2s...

Andy :)

Dermmy's BNSF Clovis Sub may be the nicest long haul freeware route out there. I have yet to run a session though. I just set trains in surveyor, in both directions from opposite ends, drive one consist, and tell the others to drive. Then I watch eye candy for an hour or two. I like operating sessions, but sometimes it's just nice to sit back and watch the trains roll by.

WOW i love the routes so far thanks trainz community u did it agen! im downloading all of of this sfuff as we speak!

You might want to take a look at Cumberland to Connellsville. It's about 100 miles long, and runs through Maryland and Pennsylvania. You'll find it here: http://trainzresources.com/directory/index.php?main_page=product_book_info&cPath=2_3&products_id=813

I gotta put another endorsement in for this one as a nice, long route. It has multiple Class I railroads intermingling with multiple Class II or III. Industries and small towns separated by long stretches of track winding through the mountains. And oh yeah, is this ever coal country. I never found a session for it, and the route itself is not really AI friendly. There's a single track that stretches most of the length of the layout that the AI seems to favor (of course.) I spent a little time trying to come up with a session but there are a lot of roads and a lot of portals and it started to become a small project to set up track markers to direct trains across the proper tracks. But man, the sight of a bunch of Joram24's Conrails struggling to lead a massive coal train through the Appalachians in the early morning hours is almost breathtaking.

drrt4:
If you want to sit back, sip your favorite brew and watch trains work, don't limit yourself to 100 or 200 mile runs. You can follow some interesting action in switching yards and short local runs. Try some of the scenarios from the DLS under Gary_Evans:D

I appreciate the comments, Milaga. Glad that you like the route.
