Locked by parent.

on my own route I keep getting "Locked by parent" when I go to change or delete splines and or trackside objects.

I can some times detete a spline and replace it, but whe going back to chage it again it is "lovked by parent" all I can do then is delete it (s0metimes) and replace, But the "Locked by parent" issue hapens again in my next edit.

I have invested several years in this route of mine and have upgraded it with each new edition of Trainz.

Can someone tell me what is going on?

Sorry, when I saw the title of the thread, I thought you meant that your parents have locked access to TRS22. I would have asked them politely to unlock access to TRS22, but then again, I don't share my computer with anyone, except myself.

This message will appear whenever you attempt to edit an asset (particularly splines) in the immediate proximity of an interactive industry asset which has attached track (or road spline, etc.) Such assets have a zone of influence over nearby assets. Multiple Industry New are some of the worst offenders here.
Can be fixed by adding additional spline joins near to the 'parent' asset; deleting the attached rail (or other spline); moving or deleting the offending parent asset; making the desired adjustments you needed to make; and then replacing the industry object/ parent asset and reaffixing it to the track/ road. etc.

Bridges and Tunnels also have the same effect.

Love your sense of Humour. My 132 year old Father gets annoyed with my playing game on my PC...lol:hehe:

Thanks for the info.:)

I am experiencing "locked by parent" in my route. I have no layers locked. The route is all on one layer.
What do the folks at Auran/N3V say how to correct this item.
John (NWHY6).

This has nothing to do with layers. The issue is the track spline located within a fixed-track object such as a grade crossing, or special track objects such as bridges, tunnels, and stations.

The way to connect to the track on a bridge , for example, is to drag a connection to the bridge or crossing rather than attempt to connect to it directly. When you drag the track close enough, it'll snap to the bridge.

This is a real pain. I have several chunks of track around that will not delete. I tried the suggestions to no avail. Connecting something to the (&^$^ thing helped in the past but now connecting has no functional affect. Note if I connect a track to it the thing takes on the visual character of the connected track.

The track is or has become a fixed track asset. It may have separated from something like a level-crossing. Use the objects tab to delete it.

It seems to still believe it is a track asset. It assumes the characteristics of a track asset that is connected to it. Nasty little devil.

There's an odd and very elusive bug that N3V hasn't been able to track down after I reported it back in T:ANE. What happens is a flag changes somewhere in the asset database causing track splines to change to something else such as scenery items. When this occurs, the characteristics of track are lost causing the symptoms you are seeing including the inability to add trackside objects such as signals or create junctions.

The solution, or rather the workaround I figured out for this, is to go into Content Manager and sort the data on track that's not built-in or packaged. Select the track and open up the track for editing. Once opened, wait a few minutes then submit the track.

The submitting process will reset the flag and then the track acts like it should.

Could issues in the Bound/Binding Layer be causing the "Locked by Parent" issues? I researched Trainz for my future knowledge and found a Trainz Wiki Page on the subject and also Tip#2 Deleting Objects From Layers - 2nd Tip Listed

Thank you to all the Contributers on this thread. I've had to try and deal with Locked by Parent issue since first purchased Trs22 PE last year.

Kept finding myself deleting small areas to make existing track changes.

I now understand this issue much better.😉👍

I came across the "Locked by Parent" message for the first time yesterday. It was in the latest Trainz Plus (build 129343) while I was manipulating a section of track that was attached to a bridge. None of my layers were locked or hidden, both objects were in the same "route-layer" and neither were bound to any other layer. It only appeared once and has not reappeared since.

If you are trying to do something other than attaching track to the bridge track spline point you will get this message. It means that the bridge cannot be modified in any way, like adding signals or speed signs.
