Leeds to Derby route - data load??

I am working with a colleague in UK on the Leeds - Derby route (Midland 1950's / 60's) and am concerned about the accumulating data load. We are currently at 13.75MB (per CMP) and have reached Swinton (from Leeds) and am therefore guessing at around 40MB when completed. I am not overly concerned about the frequent trans-Atlantic trips that this route is making, nor am I concerned about the hardware necessary to operate it effectively. What I would like feedback on is:

1. Any known issues with a route that size going to DLS?
2. Any other potential issues that I should be aware of?

We are working in TC3.

Many thx. Colin.

Believe the DLS file size limit is 50Mb (for the cdp), though I understand they will accept slightly larger files if sent on a CD which the Auran techs will upload manually.

You have actually done quite well to keep the file size that low, though be advised as you start adding scenery and texture to each baseboard the file size will start to rise quite markedly.

Hi Colin,

There used to be a limit of 20mb for upload to the DLS (a couple of years ago) but I don't know if that has been increased since then. However I am sure that I have read somewhere that larger files can be uploaded "by arrangement with Auran".

Given that file size for a simple asset such as a house can run to many Mb these days I don't think 40mb will be an issue (in computing terms its trivial).

Sounds like an interesting project - I know the first part the route fairly well having worked in BR's Leeds Division in the 1970s - in a job where I got "out and about" on the railway whenever I wanted and long before the days when you needed a certificate (PTS, PICOW etc.) before you could do anything!

Good luck, I look forward to seeing the route.

Edit: I have just seen Vern's post and I thought: the CDPs you upload are compressed (by - ? - 50%) - so more margin, I hope!

I was wondering about this - are cdp's compressed and therefore not as large as the route shows up in CMP? If so, what is the compression ratio?

To give you an example, my route is at the moment 41.5MBs on the CMP and when transfered to a CDP its 10.4MBs, so its roughly 4 to 1 ratio?
