For the past week i've noticed my laptop giving off extreme heat when i'm using trainz but is more or less normal any other time ?

Just wondering if anyone has experienced similar problems.

It is normal for a laptop to become very hot whilst using Trainz, as it uses system resources a lot more than most other programs.

Use a chill pad, or build a home made one using a box fan underneath ... vaccuumm out the vents regulary.

Perhaps the CPU needs a reapplication of thermal paste ? Arctic Silver thermal paste is way better than ceramic, and bargain thermal paste. A professional PC Tech (such as Stalpes may be able to take your PC apart and clean and apply Arctic Silver thermal paste).

Thanks for the prompt replies.

My main concern was getting told my machine was about to grind to a halt thus losing the routes i am working on.

Thanks again.

It might be worth checking for fluff etc in the air intake. I find on my current laptop, Surveyor doesn't normally have the fan working that hard, as opposed to RW when I was doing something the other day in the route editor it was on full blow and I could smell the heat!

Years ago I had an old Toshiba laptop which I used with the MSTS route editor and that used to get so hot, eventually the heatsink peeled off the CPU!
