LACMTA Trainz Project

Hello folks, so I have recently decided to tackle a major Trainz project that includes the city of Los Angeles. I am taking up the project and designing Rolling Stock of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and I am doing it in chronological order of each train line that opened. So first I am going into the late 80s and early 90s and designing the Nippon Sharyo Sumitomo P865 1989-90 order that delivered the first 53 cars for the Metro Blue Line. I have progress shots of the car from when the project first started to now.

I am very proud of this since it is my first Sketch Up and soon to be 3ds max project, comment and let me know what you guys think.

Coming along well, I would say. Those compound curves must be tough!;)

The curves were not the biggest problem around the main body, but when it came to the cab section it became a problem of making sure each side was equivalent to each other in length. The next step in this is working the front end of the car, it's articulated section, interior, roof and pantographs, afterwards it shall be sent into max for the finishing touches. I was hoping to see if ArtTrain would be willing to update the sound settings on the cars, such as the horns, gong and bell.

well that's settled. I'll update the sounds as well. I've still have the sounds that I've made in OpenBVE. I'll remake the sounds using my OpenBVE sounds for the LACMTA Blue Line Exterior Pack for Trainz. I'm a HUGE fan of LACMTA. Kinda made the same version as u do, but in a BVE version only.

Thanks Mikey, its mostly the horn, bell and gong i need, BTW, I tested the sounds out on Alterr's Siemen U2 cars, and the acceleration and idle is spot on, however I didn't hear them when they went idle or stopped.

I didn't mean to put you on the spot like that too. Sorry about that.

How fast have you been able to get those U2 cars going? Mine seem to be slow, not going past 20-25mph.

I wish he would have raised the pantograph height on them though, sometimes when I am running them they look awkward due to how short heightened they are when they are risen up.

I would go into the enginespec and change the thrust values at each notch at each speed. If you want a top speed of 55, go to the 8th notch and set the thrust at 25 equal to 0 and the thrust values at every other speed equal to something nonzero.

Anyways, i need to find a track like similar to these,

These have special clamps, but the only ones I could find were way to broad for the U2 cars I am using for the test route.

Just wanted to let you guys know that Saturday I am going into Los Angeles and I will be riding the Blue Line itself, so that will give me the perfect opportunity to take a couple shots of different characteristics of the car, such as interior as well as the infamous articulated axle section of the car.

U sure u gonna be ok in the blue line (in real-time)? Its a jungle down here.

So after riding it today, I have finally gotten a better view of more of the car, tonight, I am going to work on the articulated Axle since the main car itself is nearing completion, next step is to construct a semi accurate interior.

well how was it? You know, I really love your projects (even know one of the was not completed yet). I love riding the LACMTA all the time (I'm planning to go to the Gateway Transit Center next weekend). After u finished with the blue line, what prohject u gonna make next? Maybe the red line (A650), or the Siemens P2000 LRV, or even the Breda P2550?

Today was perfect to hop nboard, while down at 7th Street i was lucky enough to catch some Siemen P2000 cars from the Gold Line which was a rare sight indeed, I assume it was for Expo Line testing, and you would be happy to know that one of the Sharyo Cars added a new destination sign to it's collection.
