Kuids Update

Dear Trainz community,
I have a question regarding updating KUIDs. I have over 300 outdated KUIDs. When I updated an industry, it stopped working, and the same thing happened with a rule. Now I'm confused. How can I make sure I'm updating the correct KUIDs? Can you help me?

In CM if you right click one of the assets and select “List asset versions” or something like that it should show all the versions of that asset. If the KUID is on the DLS then you should be able to download it. The new version will overwrite prior versions.
Example: <kuid:123:456> will get overwriten by <kuid2:123:456:1> and if futher updates that will be overwriten by <kuid2:123:456:2> and so on. The last number of a kuid2 KUID is the version number.

Can you help me?

Understand_Content_Manager_Status_Labels

Basically, any asset that is labelled by Content Manager in its Status column as "Newer version available", whether it is installed or not, simply means that there is a more recent version of that asset available on the DLS.
  • if an asset is described as "Available for download, Newer version available" then you don't already have that particular version installed but there is a newer version available on the DLS. You can install either (the older or newer) version or neither - not everyone wants to install the latest version of an asset.
  • if an asset is described as "Installed from DLS, Newer version available" then that version is already installed in your copy of Trainz but there is a newer version available on the DLS, if you want to install it. If you do update this already installed asset to the newer version then the original version with be relabelled as "Installed from DLS, Obsolete".
  • if an asset is described as "Packaged, Newer version available" then that version is already installed in your copy of Trainz and it was installed as part of a DLC package but there is a newer version available on the DLS, if you want to install it.
To simplify your choices, if you decide to install the latest version of an asset then right click on the asset, even if the one you clicked is described as "Newer version available", and select the option Download. Content Manager will automatically find and download the latest version. If you want to install a particular version, even if a newer version is available or is already installed, then select the option Download this Version.

I recommend checking daily for updated assets and removing the obsolete ones.

You can create filters for this.

In Content Manager, click on the small arrow next to the words Filter: Installed.

This will open up additional options.
Next to Installed, click the plus symbol (+) on the far right.
Where it says Asset Kuid, scroll that until it says Out of date.
To the right, change that to read True if it says something else.
Click + again on the right.
Change this line to read Packaged.
Change True to False.

Save this as Out-of-date and not built-in.
The filter will appear in the list where On Download Station and others are located.

Repeat this for obsolete assets.
Add a new line,
Change that to Obsolete = True
Add a new line,
Change that to Packaged = False.

Save this filter as Obsolete and not built-in.
Anything that appears in this filter can be deleted.

Thank you very much for your help. I've now updated the file asset. It also has payware assets. Can I, or rather, can I, update them without problems? And a second question: When updating assets, they are usually listed as unknown within the asset being updated. Is that okay? Thanks again for the help.

It also has payware assets. Can I, or rather, can I, update them without problems?
Assets labelled as Payware are normally updated through the Trainz Content Store - from the Launcher select Content Store then click the Update button. If there are Payware updates available in the Store (DLC) then they will be updated. If the Payware asset is labelled in Content Manager as "Newer version available" then the update is on the DLS (as freeware) and you can update it from there by a right mouse click and selecting Download.

When updating assets, they are usually listed as unknown within the asset being updated. Is that okay?
Assets labelled as "Unknown location" or "Unknown asset" are just an annoyance, not an issue. It usually means that the asset, which is not on the DLS, is referenced by another asset that you have installed. One of several reasons for this can be that the asset creator had originally included the "missing asset" as a part of the new asset but later removed it and forgot to remove its reference. I have about 23 such assets listed by Content Manager, none of which seems to have any effect on the operation of the program. I have noticed that sometimes if the asset with the missing references is updated by the creator then the <Unknown asset> or <Unknown location> label vanishes from Content Manager.

See Understand_Content_Manager_Status_Labels#Unknown_Incompatible_Not_Installed_Not_Active for some tips that can sometimes solve this mystery.
