Jumping Track Ends

No, if you look at my video you'll see what he's talking about, a new track section won't make the vertex being connected to move, but stretching an existing track section the one being connected to does jump over to connect. Just now tried the other suggestion, turning the fixed track vertex height off has no effect.

Again to duplicate the gripe you must lay two unconnected track pieces, then change to the move tool and drag the end of one track section to connect to the other. If you're laying a NEW track section to connect to the previous section you won't see the same behavior. Workaround for now, lay a new section between the ends of the previous sections to fill the gap where the track spacer alignment gadget was removed instead of dragging one end - then use the advanced tool "delete spline point" to delete one of the spline points and get rid of the short section with the funky crosstie spacing.

Aha - I see my misunderstanding! I guess it's partly because I never move an existing track end, I always delete and re-lay, therefore I have never seen the problem!

The reason I always delete and relay is that I always have fixed track vertex height 'On' and since I always work on DEM bases, no two vertexes are ever the exact same height and moving a fixed vertex set at one height to connect to a fixed vertex set at a different height seems illogical....

Andy :)

Yep, Sniper described the problem and solution that I used in a nutshell. I've been laying some track today using this technique and it's working out just fine. :)

The irritating part for me is Trainz tracklaying "helper" is like trying to lay flex track in a nuthouse - get it just the way you want it, then go to attach the next section and some maniac rips out your spikes and bends the previous section to what HE thinks is a proper transition curve for the new section. If there was a way to turn that blasted thing off so I could lay the track without "help" I would shut it off and never turn it back on.
