JR and its Payment methods...

SBB Cargo Germany
Good evening...

I just wanted to order One loco and two content packages at JR for about $48. Added to Cart, went to Check out....then to Paypal, wanting to Pay. So, thats it. No chance to pay it, since pay pal tells me that one can ONLY pay with a credit card, and also only 4 types of credit cards (Master Card, Visa etc) are allowed. Hello??? Since when is that? I bought things (one time about $92, others a bit lower) before, NOT having to own a credit card O.o Did something change here? If yes- sad. I do not have a credit card, its simply not needed in germany, also not very common :o
Wish you all a nice day,

Felix

Really? Then Germany must be the only place in the Universe where a credit card of one form or another is not an essential requirement for every day living.

Nope, I see PayPal and am able to purchase just as usual with it.

Also have the options to pay with Debit or Credit card. I hope you know that you can charge debit cards as credit, it's just a form of payment that is used since debit typically would required a PIN. (at least for me) 4 types of credit cards have only been accepted since JointedRail and PayPal opened their doors. All you need to pay for payware is a checking account with a debit linked to it so payment can be guaranteed. As far as I know, there are only 4 major credit card companies in America. We (at OfficeMax) only take those cards and have done so long before I started working there and have yet to find someone with a card that didn't work. Most other card providors like CapitalOne and Citi will use other vendors (like Visa or MasterCard for example) for the rest.

Even if so, you can link your bank account to Paypal to have funds taken directly from there. A debit card will also work, the funds also get taken directly from your bank.

Yes, I use Paypal, without a credit card, and it works on all my purchases, besides Jointed Rail. You need to rethink your payment plans with paypal, they are hold back, not Jointed Rail. Sucks, maybe discrimination of Germans by paypal...?

I have made several purchases with JR and used paypal without issue. My paypal account is linked to my bank account. I use it for a number of venders. You don't need a credit card wuth paypal.

I use Paypal as well and don't have any credit cards. Quite a few debit cards are also supported, unless you have a rare type that's only supported in one country which if that's the case I would suggest that you either set up the bank transfer method or get a credit/debit card from one of the major providers (Paypal may also accept some prepaid cards as well).

Funny how you always describe the US as the universe....

No, in Germany, we pay with EC-Cards (like everywhere in europe i think), which is a debit card. Credit cards are not very common, you cant even pay with them in most shops.

@rgcx - not dropped, but paypal only allows to pay via credit card

@Santafebuff - i do not have that option. I'l post a screenie as soon as possible

@nicky - nope...i can do this, but paypal does not allow me to pay my JR order with this method. No joke...

@Jeff i use paypal for other purchases as well, without any problem - except JR. I guess because its in the US...

@Shane - welp, i have some very common debit cards...but can not pay it with them. As said - screenie incoming soon :)

Me - US? No. I'm Australian.

But I do understand that Germany is one of the few advanced economies where cash is still used widely, which surprises me. Here most transactions are done by plastic cards and electronic funds transfers, and cash a very poor second. And ther banks are serioulsy considering abadoning paper cheques because so few payments now use this method.

I can tell you we definitely take paypal and i know they have a credit card without login option as well so its pretty easy to use one way or another. As far as any limitations by country, that I do not know of. I know were not blocking it out on purpose.

Thank you  So i guess its a Paypal restriction, either against just me and very few users, or germany in general :) I'll contact them and ask - btw, got the loco's, my dad paid it with his credit card. (Since we live 350km from each other, its not normal that he can do this though)

OH lol!! Didnt notice haha. You sounded like one of the US inhabitants telling me 'you and your third world countries...' xD

In germany, its the same with paper money, but we dont use Credit cards, we use so called 'EC-Cards'. They are only usable in the EU, but do the job... ;)

About as funny as you automatically jumping to the conclusion he was from the U.S.

Is there the posiblity of you getting a pre-paid debit card with one of the approved companies on it? That is what I use for all of my online purchases, only load what I need and if anybody steals the info, they aren't going to get anything. And this method does work for JR.

I take offense to this :P

I respect Germany and have some heritage there, but I very much disagree with generalizations about a country - especially my own (fat, stupid, always describing it as the universe). Disregard what you have been told about my country's inhabitants, they are no more stupid than in your country or anywhere else on the planet.

Except Florida. Everything they say about Florida is true. After driving on I-75 all day today with other Floridians, I don't even want to live on this planet anymore!

Driving with anybody on any interstate is enough to make anybody not want to live on the planet. Interstates are a dangerous place!

And Mike is from Florida. What they say about the heat is true. How do you people live in that kind of heat and humidity? I thought it got hot in PA and then I went to Florida, so much more humid.

You should come to Singapore. 90F and 85% humidity, 365 days a year.

Blah, I need more variation! I don't know how you people that live in the tropical world make it. It feels like summer all year long! I love a good 105F with 10% humidity, and then it transition to 20F and icy, snowy, breezy, horrible overall conditions! Perfect weather for me! I'm pretty happy, plus there's no worries about Hurricanes (WOO One plus of not living close to the ocean) or Severe Weather (Okay, that's not true, that does happen more often than people than people think it does around here. It just doesn't get reported a whole lot, since there are quite a few places that are pretty desolate.)
