Joystick (throttle quadrant)

Hello,

Why all train simulators do not support joysticks out of the box? Configuring keys isn't the same as controlling speed/brakes using throttle controls...

I hope developers will add support for joysticks soon... Won't buy next versions without it...

Because they have to program them to work, trains don't have brake, throttle, reverser,
They have an independant brake, train brake, horn, lights, throttle and many other things

BTW That's a flight sim joystick,
Train drivers, what would happen if you used plane controls to drive a -9 through Central America??

1st of all it's not a real train. Imagine driving real one from the keyboard. Railworks has a driver for joystick and it works perfectly with my quadrant. It's better than buying special unit. I have a limited money supply.

I am a programmer. And I wrote code to control my robot from my joystick. It's not that hard...

Curious, if you don't have the bucks to buy a raildriver (best money I ever spent, $150 back in 2003 so about $21.50 per year for all the use I've gotten out of it) why not use the Saitek program to set up what you have?

Bottom pic in that post is my customized Raildriver, behind it is the Saitek X35T, which along with the X36 joystick I used for driving trains before Raildriver was invented. Also use it to fly airplanes, obviously, but in a pinch I can program banding and buttons to run practically anything including Midtown Madness and first person shooters.

From the size of that bottle of Aspirin, it looks like setting that up gave you a mighty headache Sniper297. :D

It would be nice to have something that can mimic the basic controls of a DCC controller as I find using the keyboard is the main thing that keeps me away from Driver. I believe that Raildriver doesn't do DCC style driving? And also that it doesn't work with TS10?

RailDriver is the best...

 RailDriver, that now lists for $199, works with all versions of Trainz.

It is a turnkey solution to navigating Trainz...

Yeah, I downloaded the TS2009 driver which apparently is for 2009 and 2010. Only two problems I've run into; (1) Any engine with a cabview that does not have a working speedometer won't send speed data to the Raildriver LED display, it always reads zero, and (2) there are quite a few different engine specs that apparently were not tested with raildriver. In TS2010 about half the engine specs work correctly, the other half won't respond to the raildriver throttle or reverser. If I clone a working engine spec, the clone won't respond to the reverser or throttle so I'm stuck using the ones that do work. I sent a "heads up" to RD tech support, got a response from Raildriver Amber, according to her they're working on a whole new macro keys interface which should improve all the different interfaces at some point.

No, actually those were for my six year war with the MSTS route editor  and the two years of futile battles trying to get railsim or railworks AI traffic to do something halfway intelligent. :n: I still need them for Trainz because of all the new skirmishing with content manager. :'(
