Jointed Rail - Folkston Webcam

It it my pleasure to announce that after 4 years of hard work and thousands of dollars our webcam is finally back online and performing better that it ever has. We will be making adjustments over the coming days and hope to further refine the quality of the broadcast. There are a number of people behind the scenes who have made this possible. For a brief summary about Folkston, Georgia for those who don't know it sits just across the Florida border on a very busy CSX double main track. Most of the freight and all of the passenger traffic into and out of Florida will pass by this cam at some point during the day. You will also see many popular trains such as the CSX OCS, Tropicana Juice Train, Amtrak's Auto Train, and more. You can also expect to see multiple unit trains of coal, phosphate, autoracks, military movements, and anything else you can think of that roams the CSX system in the southeast. There is a live scanner feed so you can hear dispatcher and train crew communications. We will be restoring audio of the actual trains in the next few days. Stop by and check it out, we hope you enjoy it. Again we are still working to refine the feed so don't be surprised if it does not look perfect from time to time.

Enjoy!

Mike

Thanks Mike for bringing this back online.

It's amazing what lightning can do. My building got hit at work a few weeks ago. It took out wireless headsets on the 2nd floor, 3 floors from the hit on the roof! Nothing else was damaged in the building.

You were lucky this was the only damage you had.

Is there any chance of making this Internet Explorer compatible too? I used to view this cam regularly, but now I can't.

Cams have gotten better that a great picture! Got it on now waiting on the next train which is a mixed freight.

We have been doing a lot of work on it, and will continue to do so over the next 2 weeks. We leaving for Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and the Carolina's next week on a major research trip. We will make a final stop on our way back to Florida in Folkston to make final adjustments to the cam late next week. Hope you all enjoy it, and tonight om PO92-12 there will be 2 FRA cars tacked to the rear. One is in PRR colors and the other is red, white, and blue. For those in the Folkston area check out our Hobby Shop inside Whistlin-Dixie on main street. We will be setting up a PC based sim in there as well so you can run TS12 while you chow down on some of the best food in the south, and watch trains live from the big screen in the store.

Thank you very much to all of our supporters, we appreciate it!

Mike

Ok, I went back in and it worked. Do not know what happened the first time. Any one know the schedule of any trains passing here?

Just watched the 6:30 mixed freight go by. Question: is there sound? I did not get any. Not complaining just asking.

I can't seem to get an image on the cam. The page loads but the camera just looks blank. I am running Safari on a Mac. (O.S- Lion 10.7.1)

Hey I have the same problem. I am running lion and use safari. I download firefox and it seams to work a little better, but I still get the blank screen more then the video footage.

Very nice. I'm watching this now. Just curious. Is there anything unique or special history about this area for rail fanning?

A little Googling is in order I see... This area is the main observation point for rail traffic in and out of Florida, (hence 'funnel'). Most all of it comes this way. Folkston has built a cottage industry out of catering to railfans, and hosts a festival every year for that purpose.
