Jointed Rail - Folkston Webcam

Question for JR.... what is the train speed limit going through the town?

Well that's always been a question of mine as well. I have always heard that the town itself has imposed a 45mph limit. However quite often I see some of the hot trains blowing through at what seems like much more than 45mph. I'm going to do a bit of research on this and get back to you, as it's always been a topic for discussion among railfans while at the platform or trackside.

Thanks,

Mike

Timetable lists the speed through there at 50 mph. It certainly seems like some of them are doing way more than that. It's also kind of funny the amount of hits we get from the corporate office for CSX in Jacksonville. I have a friend that works there in the castle on Water. St and he has said in more than one occasion the brass has had the webcam on the big screen in the conference room. Guess they must be checking up on things... Wish they would donate! ;)

And yeah Ed, Folkston sits just northwest of Jacksonville, FL about 35 miles. All times are EST. It's the first town you encounter when you leave Florida and get into Georgia. It's a very small town, put it this way you can walk into the Pharmacy get your prescription and grab a flat panel TV at the Radio Shack, and have the same cashier as they share the same building... True southern charm in this town, everybody knows everybody. I call it the modern day Maybury.

Thanks,

Mike

Thanks for the speed info.

Agree that some seem to be going faster.

Regards,

it does seem that way sometimes. i have also thought this, but just outside of the view of the camera is the interlocking and there is a signal there that can only show limited clear as its highest aspect. this puts the speed limit at 45 mph, yes sometimes it appears they are going faster. i have no doubt it is just appearance, and they are actually obeying the speed limits! :hehe:

ummm, can I please get some help here? I want to watch the webcam as well, but I can't.

The page loads fine, but there is a blank screen where the footage is supposed to be. Any help?

I am running Safari/sometimes Firefox, on Lion.

there is no reason i can think of other than maybe outdated plugins that would cause it not to play on a Mac. other Mac users have reported it working fine. requires flash.
