I had a look at the "paint kit" and I'm sure I must be missing something, but what purpose does superimposing the "wire map" grid serve?

I think the remix F units you've released are excellent, as are all of your models, and I looked early on at the files in the releases and judged them to be pretty easily reskinned for the future (if my eyes ever get better). When you never answered other's questions about reskinning and uploading in a definitive manner I decided not to pursue skinning them at all if they couldn't be shared.

Now I see you want to exert some control over quality and hosting, and I assume this is part of that effort. That's fine by me, but the wireframe seems like more of an obstacle to skinning than an aid. I could do better to reskin your original maps of the ATSF, than having to mess around removing information from the map I don't need.

So, okay...I admit to ignorance. I'm not the skilled modeler you are, but I know how to paint a map and get it to look like something when I'm done. Can you please tell me how the wireframe assists me to that end?

i always intended that these could be painted and re-released by others, thats why i supplied a reskin kit.

the uv wireframe layer is simply a location aid. i am not sure why this is a problem for you, in fact i have to be honest, it confuses me very much so. the intent is that you toggle it on and off to see what area you might be painting on if any at all. obviously this does not become part of the final skin. does it not help to see where the model falls on the texture map? i use this on most if not all of my skins.

Yes, but to not be disingenuous, to state what you have above does not specifically give permission to upload said reskins to the DLS, or another host. You know that lacking a license provision in your object's config file will open you (or any other creator) up to these questions. The last thread I read posted by someone asking permission was answered in the vaguest possible manner, as you have again answered above.

As I said in my first post in this thread, I was sure that I was missing something. Perhaps this does help others, but does not help me. We all approach art differently, and we all understand spacial relationships differently, and I can understand the relationship between the model and the map more easily by observing a textured file. The wireframe just confuses me more...as should be obvious from my post.

Of course I've been reskinning Trainz since the Expresso days, and never really needed a gray scale map...it's just how I learned to do things. Not better, not worse, just the way I learned. (Thanks Drew:wave: )

Well thanks for answering my questions, I sure hope I have not caused any ill will between us, I'm just not the sharpest tool in the shed sometimes!:D

:) no problem Euphod. you can simply turn off the wireframe layer if you dont want it.

ok just to clear things up from now on... *clears throat

the F7A and B may be skinned and released wherever anyone wants it to be, all i ask is a nod toward myself for the superdetailing, scripting, and remapping, it doesnt have to go on my site or anything and they can go on the dls. my policy has usually been that modifications and releases of freeware are permitted as long as proper credits are given, same applies here. please feel free to copy and paste this anywhere you feel i was not clear on this. :D

Well, that's very clear and generous of you as well!

Although, what better honor then to have your reskin hosted on the JointedRail site? It will carry with it the mantle of "officially sanctioned", and will be well separated from the riff raff on the DLS.

I urge every aspiring skinner to enter the contest and do their best to honor this fine model!:)

May I ask what program the .psd files are meant to be opened with? I don't seem to have the right program...
--EDIT-- Never mind, it needs Adobe Photoshop which I don't have...
--RE-EDIT-- I found a plug-in for Paint.net so I can open them. Time for me to get painting

One question: how do I avoid making problems with the running number script when I clone the locomotive and rename it for repainting? After I clone , the clone refuses to show running numbers...

you cannot use ccp to edit the files, it will ruin the arn for some reason, try opening the original for edit and changing the name and kuid, then re-committing.

I've never had CMP be happy about changing the kuid when it's already installed so what I do is open the loco file for edit, go into the "edit" folder in 09, copy and past it to my desk top, change the kuid and name, (don't forget to save the changes;)) then drag and drop it back into CMP. I do that all the time when I make a new skin for one of my locos.

Are you allowed to enter more than one reskin into the contest? I have a few I want to enter but it doesn't say in the rules how many reskins can be submitted by one person.

Cheers,
Adam
