Join the TS2009 Beta now!

thanks ahsan!

Now I can get in the game and load sessions. But I have the same quality as trs2004? is that normal? isn't it supposed to be the trs2009 version?
Most of the assets included at this stage are a combination of the built-ins from TRS2004 & TRS2006 & some other assets for good measure, but the TS2009 quality items that I know of so far are these:

SD40 Union Pacific (May Be SD45)
TS2009 example track

Where is my download link?

I pre-ordered and paid the TS 2009 version, but I didn't receive any email at all with a download-link for the beta version. The only confirmation I got was through Paypal. Watching my order status at Auran I can also see a BETA-serialnumber, but that's all. No possibility to download anything.

Didn't change my email, so, can Auran help me?

Download corrupt

I have pre-ordered my copt of TRS 2009 and recieved the confirmation email giving the serial number etc. etc. After following the link i spent the next several hours waiting for the download only to find that halfway through installation I got the message "C\Program Files\Auran\TS2009\Builtin\3.ja" "An error occurred while trying to copy a file: The source file is corrupted,"

I decided waste several more hours to retry the download but with exactly the same result.

Has anyone else come accross this problem or is it likely to be at Auran's end?

My first try was corrupted....second time was good. Having downloaded many beta builds in the past, it seemed if I did anything on the computer while it was downloading, I'd get a corrupted file....only when I left it alone did I get a good download...

Thanks for that Sourdough. I will try that. Only problem is my rural location only gives me the slowest broadband available in the UK and each dowload takes about 14 hours :'(

Suggestion.

Hi All,

I've just completed a search looking for something I needed to find out about my 09 Beta version. I found that questions relating to 09 are scattered all over the Forum.

As the 'New look Forum' is 09 related, couldn't Auran start up an 09 section in the 'Maintenance of Way - Support'.

Just a thought.

Cheers
Pete.

This is a wonderful idea, Pete. :D

So far I've been able work with the Beta okay without any of the reported serial number issues, or slow AI.

Done!
I have the beta.

But: what is the purpose of this release.
I realy don't know ;)
Only 4 or 5 "demo's" of new objects...

I am not really interested in the compatibility of old routes or scenery...
I had hoped for a new route for example, which give us the new graphics standard as a demonstration.
For the moment, it is not an encouragement to continue.

You don't have to pay twice. You will receive an email with a new serial number when the gold version is available. You then download the new version, register the serial number and you will be off and running. Hope this clears up the confusion.:'(

Beta 1 is all about getting a broad cross section of the community to test the build and tell us what works and what doesn't. We've had hundreds of bug reports and almost as many feature requests.

Also, World Builder Edition is more about new graphics capabilities and new features and not new content (apart from the Auran supplied examples). It takes time for the community to build content - 8 years to create 100,000 items so far. The idea with splitting Trainz into two editions is to provide the capabilities now leaving more time to create new, higher quality content. So Engineers Edition will provide the first big release of new content.

Also, you need to look beneath the graphics to find many of the improvements in World Builder. For example, the new search and filter functionality helps you find what you are looking for quickly and easily. The new terrain grid and texturing allows you to create finer details in your world. The new viewing distance allows you to see 5km not just 1.5km (adjust this in-game using Options/Video Settings/Terrain Draw Distance).

Check out the new SD40-2 Union Pacific versus the BNSF SD40 included since, I think, V1.0. Compring these two locos and cabs will show you what TS2009 is capable of delivering.

Cheers

Tony

Thank you all!
Those new objects, only a few, do look great.

So when the final program is released, how do we stand then with the
new content.
I made some scenery for KRS so I have a hang of it what it takes.

It's only a question, nothing more: so we depend upon the work of others??

Hi theokus,

From what I understand you will have to purchase the second edition (forgot the name) to see the full benefits of 09.
The 'World Builder' edition is just that.
Look-on it as a special edition for content creators, including route builders, and the driver section for testing and improving your layout before uploading.
Personally, I think its a good idea. I spend more time in surveyor, than in driver.

If you are just a Trainz Player, with no thought on the creating side of things, then you simply choose the second edition.

Anyway, that's how I see it. If I'm wrong, I'll soon be corrected :)

Cheers

Thanks Pete!
I hope for "easy" tools to make a route.
In KRS it is straight forward... a bit of work but easy in the end.

Hello everyone,

Long term fan of the series and the latest newsletter re-sparked my interest so I preorded the World-Creator edition this afternoon.

Got my email and everything but no Beta Key :'( - Is this due to the fact that the Retail version is due very soon?

Thanks Pete!

Hi theokus;

I found KRS difficult to get to grips with, but perhaps its because I've been using surveyor for several years now. The upside-down 'washing baskets' really put me off. :D
I feel sure that once you get use to surveyor you won't look back.
If you get stuck you'll find this forum very friendly and helpful.

Cheers
Pete.

I am in the process of finishing off a KRS route but will be returning to TRS for my next project, probably after TS2009 arrives and I've had a break. KRS route editor does some things well - track laying is spline based but you can control the radius much easier than TRS. Where it falls down is that scenery and terrain texture application takes much longer. There is no copy and paste for terrain texture as in TRS, where you've placed a good blend. Each and every tile needs to be individually painted. Likewise placing objects, there's no auto-rotation of objects which is a pain doing items like trees which need to be individually turned to avoid a uniform appearance. The copy and paste for objects is also primitive compared to TRS. You cannot rotate the selection and initial placement does not put the objects at terrain level - you need to reselect and hit the J key to correct the height. TRS also allows you to copy and paste terrain textures and objects in one go making it much quicker to do forests etc.

I reckon it has taken roughly twice as long to create the same 20 mile route in KRS as it did for TRS.
