I admit, its not easy....
It can be done......you basically end up with the shape in 3ds format and some textures in ACE format that are usable... after that its like creating something from scratch.
I do realize I am being a bit vague... I am not trying to be offensive..... I feel that by keeping quiet I help protect the original authors work, in case someone accidentally converts something without the original authors permission.
Getting permission to do these engines, while it wasn't exactly hard, wasn't easy.

yeah MSTS authors (and trainz authors) can be very picky about their content but imho they have every right to do with it as they wish. it is their stuff. they don't have to share it. but meh, the only thing I've ever gotten off MSTS' forum was a .skp item that someone helped me attach to a vehicle to look right, even then the original author said do what you wish with the file just give credit.

Then can you make a custom cab for it and add custom sounds? Can you add radio noises and brake squeal? Can you wall paper the cab with #2714 "Sunlit Pomegranates"? Can you add sway to the cab? Can you put a full roll of toilet paper next to the crapper? Can you add a custom "crapper" camera view? Can you make a Paintshed template for it? Can you send ten dollars to everyone who downloads it? Can you make a version for each build number of Trainz?

A reskin kit or even an undec would be nice, but if you look through his "Modding with hack" series of threads, it is easy to add the ditch lights to it yourself. I did it to Mchawkman's SW1500's using the same technique. As the crazy fitness guy Tony Little would say, "You can do it!!!"
Actually, the ditch lights already function......
It was as simple as adding 2 attachment points...... Whilst in the midst of doing the conversion, in which I had to add all the attachment points already, it was 5 minutes of work to add the ditch light points. Easy Peasy.
Undec.... That will take a bit as I do not have a blank skin.... I know a lot of people will want one to do various other roads.....
There will be a few more variations of this, due to the fact not everyone modified their 18s the same way.
