Needless to say, 2006 is starting to look pretty good right about now. 5m grids are nice, but Yeesh...

Known problem - you have corrupt textures caused by hardware accelerated texture compression. See the thread in my signature for a link to a fix for this.

Apologies, but to clarify, am I to wait for every asset to open and commit, and will I have to do this every time I download something new?

You will only need to do it for assets you have downloaded, and it's a one-time process unless you happen to reinstall Trainz.
