Items on DLS with out permission

These cars are not the ones under my kuid

Yes, I know, I'm just mentioning it.

I private messaged another user, and he/she has also stated that they had no permission to copy a number of their items.

Edit: Billvu has uploaded what looks to be an VR S Class steam loco. Knowing what the condition of the original maker is, I doubt he has had permission to upload it.

As billvu's profile says he joined in 2010 and is only 3 years old, which is kind of impossible, looks to me like he's up to no good anyway, only a couple of items showing in TANE's Content manager at present compared to the Web DLS where there are a lot.

As for gramma, a few regions which he could well have made himself, is not exactly evidence of wrong doing, the rest of his stuff as listed is not actually on the DLS if you try to download it.

I also saw a East Coast trainz 2-6-0 mogul that was made by SRR6900 that was Reskinned and then uploaded by the same person that was impersonating Steve Lerro, he is asking for trouble, that is a severe breach of the license in the config.

Please inform the original authors and ask them to send a ticket to the Helpdesk ASAP.
See post of Zec earlier in this topic.

I don't remember who the original author is.

Surely, their is a way to prevent "without permission" items from being uploaded, well at least to the download station.

I'm already ahead of you on that. I sent Ben Neal over at Subpar Productions on Billvu's reskins of his Norfolk & Western J class 4-8-4 a PM about this last night. Well, actually two, the second one a link to the reskins thread in the screenshots section of the Forums that has some pictures of Billvu's reskins of his J that I didn't think about until after I sent him the first PM about Billvu's reskins.

EDIT: I think I'll download some of Billvu's stuff and use trainzkuidindex to find where the missing dependencies are from. Since they're all reskins, that might help out with finding who the original creator was/is.

Update:
I've managed to figure out who the original creators are for some of the content. Please note that I managed to figure out who was the original creator based on the description in billvu's content. They are:
bdaneal (Subpar Productions) (Ben Neal)
stevelerro (K&L Trainz) (Steve Lerro)
leeferr (Cumberland Trainz)
sniper297 (Jim Ward)
colorado71 (colorado71trainz)
wgkandsk (K&L Trainz) (Bill Klene)
MrTrain
ANL

As you can see, billvu's content is made mostly of reskins from third-party websites.

And I suppose none of his reskins are payware assets, and are only carpy low quality reskins of freeware assets ... I have his stuff downloaded, and will look at the quality of the reskin, and delete the garbage after viewing them ... I would bet that the low quality reskin is not even worth the oxygen wasted by talking about them ... and the only reason why all this chatter is because he submitted reskins to the DLS without asking permission ... It's not like he stole payware, reskinned them, and is selling them for a profit.

If someone copied the Mona Lisa oil painting, and gave the low quality lithograph color posters away for free ... Would the DaVinchi museum have room to beech about it ?

If you care to go to the routes & layouts pages of the DLS you will see many routes/layouts uploaded by this character, don't be fooled ( as I was! ) they're mostly all identical and rubbish!

This person is, without a shadow of doubt, on some kind of personal ego trip!

Rob.

Correction: He DID. The Southern 4501 Aux tenders are officially only available in the Southern 4501 Excursion Pack on K&L Trainz, which is payware. I sent Steve a PM about it earlier today and he said that he noticed it and that it wasn't a very good reskin.

There was another guy who thought nothing of running a perfectly good loco, or route, merging them together because he thought they looked cool, and wanted to share them with the community, running them through a poo-storm, ruining the textures, painting them like they were run through a garbage pile ... the assets are still on the DLS 3 years later ... at least he wasn't selling his scat for profit ... He called us all petty whiners, stormed off, and packed up his stuff, and went to another train simulator

The auto uploader accepts anything submitted, and any quantity of assets, that have no errors ... there is no human moderator checking uploads

That's another point, their is no checking uploads. How do we know that these illegal copiers aren't putting a virus in the items, say due to an affected computer?

But something HAS GOT TO BE DONE immediately about these uploads.

The amount of junk on the Download station is now beyond a joke. And don't forget a lot of people pay to download in the form of "first class tickets".

As always, we can ONLY take action on reports from the original creator, as only they will be able to confirm that these assets were uploaded without permission.

My question is after repeated and confirmed reports from original content creators against such users, why in holy hell aren't they banned from uploading yet?

I'm not sure that is even possible ... but let's not give anyone any bright idear's

I just worry that someone may eradicate the original asset, and replace it with their own reskin ... But I have been told that is not possible

We have been through this before, many times. By "immediately" do you mean as soon as someone (not the original creator) reports a suspicious upload? As Tony, Zec and others have pointed out each time this issue is raised, N3V need something more than just a report from a third party. Granted, sometimes the original creator can be difficult or even impossible to contact but they are the only ones who can confirm that an uploaded asset has been copied/altered/reskinned without their permission. I agree that the "track record" of this particular (ab)user does make it very unlikely that he has sought permission but "unlikely" does not equal "certainty".

Another argument, but who decides what is "junk"? I agree that there seems to be a lot of strange bare layouts, for example, that are probably produced by one or more mobile versions of Trainz and there clearly is a need to better organise the DLS but I find that restricting my downloads to a few well known creators is often the best strategy.

This is the 4th time I've seen this sort of raid happen in the 3 years I've had trainz. It's not a pretty site.

Not a very high frequency compared to other download sites and perhaps people are over reacting. We are always going to have this problem in a community that is so open to all users to make their contributions. It is perhaps a price that has to be paid to avoid the alternatives, such as a restrictive site where only a few "approved" members can contribute.
