Issue with grade crossings.

Hi, all.

As I'm working on rebuilding my lost subway-trolley route, I've noticed an issue with grade crossings. I'm trying to build a street running section. It is comprised of a ROW (where the train tracks are for those who are unfamiliar with terminology) sandwiched by two roads on either side of it. When I try to do grade crossings, the cars stop and wait when my trolley is like 100 or 150 meters away. Even when it's stopped at a station 50 meters away from the crossing picking up / discharging passengers, the cars at the grade crossing refuse to cross the tracks. They wait until the cows come home if my train is less than 100'ish meters away.

Beyond 100 - 150 meters away, cars cross the tracks no problem. Is there any way I can make it so that cars keep on crossing the tracks until my trolley is like 25 - 30 meters away?

My trolley cars are running at like 10 - 25 MPH so it may take a while to reach the crossings. What's more, there's grade crossings every 200 meters or so. So pretty much a trolley sitting right in the middle of a 200 meter stretch blocks off the cars from crossing tracks at either grade crossing on either side of the 200 meter stretch. This isn't a high speed route or heavy freight route. These trolleys can stop and accelerate on a dime compared to bullet trains and 100 car freight trains.

Any ideas how this issue can be resolved?

The config file for the level crossing will contain the trigger distance in there somewhere, I believe that must be changed.

Okay. Any tips on how to "find" the particular level crossing in CMP? The library has all these weird scrambled text for file names with random letters and numbers so I can't "find" it using the windows browser. However, I do know which level crossings I'm using in the Surveyor list. The problem is that my CMP library has like 100,000 assets saved in it.

I'm using "UMxing" 2 track crossings (angled and straight).

CMP is a wonderously powerful database. Simply scroll down to the item in question, right click on it and choose "Edit in Explorer". The you will be able to view, change and then re-commit the item after you have altered it.

Unfortunately, the trigger distance for grade crossings is hard coded. There are workarounds, but they are mostly painful. Boat's new traffic light system (under development) may well help...

What are these painful methods? I'm willing to try anything!

Also, tell me about Boat's traffic light system. One problem I had with AJS traffic light system is that it doesn't allow for roads with sidewalks. When I use road with sidewalks splines to connect to AJS traffic light crossings, the sidewalks run through the intersections, instead of creating corners like in real life. Does Boat's traffic light system fix this annoying issue?

Boat's new system is here: http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=29909

I worked out another infinitely more complex way of doing this, but I don't have time to explain before work... :o

Andi06's crossings should be used with his traffic splines and individual sidewalk splines (he also has sidewalk corners that the sidewalks attach to to give a proper corner).

Hope this helps - personally I'd wait for Boat's system - my way is so painful I'm removing it from my route...
