Hi,

I recall a layout on the DLS done to resemble Puffing Billy in Victoria, however it wasn't actually called Puffing Billy. I have done a search and cant find it anywhere, can anyone recall the name of the layout?

Cheers.

Alan

Hi Alan.

The one your thinking about would be " Belgrave to Menzies Creek" but I don't recall who made it.

Yay for bringing old threads back to life!

Question: I downloaded the said layout but alas it seems to be missing some key assets .. such as the track. Any clue which track I need to download? I can see the track splines, aswell as point-switches on the map, so I think it'll still work..

Dependencies list:

7 broken,
4 unknown,
287 total.

Broken:

CNW Station, kuid58422:28101

Unknown/Missing:

kuid44700:38031
kuid44700:38912

Also, how do I install David's treese? They're in a zip file with kuid named folders - where would those go?

Assets that are broken need to be fixed and error free.

As far as the 2nd part you'll need to extract the .zip file and then you'll need to see here on how to get them into the game.

What about the missing track problem? If I remember PBR is 20 inch gauge, but I cant find 20 inch track on DLS :(

what's the KUID number for the track?

Dave

Hi All I have this all running.

I don't have kuid_44700_38031

Track kuid is kuid_44700_38990 and kuid_44700_38991 for bridge track
& kuid_44700_38912 = PBR Bridge Belgrave Station Road
These 3 are part of "PBR Route Items.cdp"

try here: http://www.trainzone.co.nz/puffingbilly.htm

CNW Station, kuid58422:28101 should be on DLS
Dam Picnic Area, kuid60238:26140 should be on DLS
Drainpipe_edc_01, kuid47092:25302 should be on DLS
SR Lamps Platform, kuid42884:28007 should be on DLS
Victoria_Forest_120m-wide_spline, kuid2:33404:500850:2 I don't have
Victoria_Forest_60m-wide_spline, kuid2:33404:500849:2 I don't have
Wire Fence, kuid60238:38211 should be on DLS

Hope this helps

i can't seem to get it going ither?(belgrave to menzeys creek) can some one tell me a short way to get it going(and i downloaded all the stuff it need's)

Bumpity bump. Did a "Puffing Billy" route ever appear for Trainz? I was thinking of doing a version in the other sim, despite the almost complete lack of ng equipment, but out of interest decided to do a terrain/map extraction in Transdem, which looks quite interesting. However not much point progressing it, if the project is already in hand elsewhere.

G'day Vern, well, definitely get a +1 from me on the concept, I'd love to see it come alive in TRS2012 (the only version I now use) having had the priveledge of riding the PBR many many many years ago - I'd sure love to see it in Trainz

I'll take that as it doesn't exist. I may work on the TRS2012 version alongside the RW version and both will probably involve some compromise, but it's a nice do-able length for a route and fairly straightforward infrastructure, plus great scenery!

G'day Vern, the "belgrave to menzeys creek" which I have going OK in TS10 is the only one I know of and is very dated so a new version (especially if it covers the entire line) would a most welcome addition to TS12. I rember riding on this line when I was a little bloke with my parents while holidaying in Vic and that was over 50yrs ago, so lots of history in the line.

It looks like I may have to revert to an earlier version of Trainz. Started placing scenery on the first 1km strip and those Speedtree gums have a huge performance hit in Surveyor, down to a judder trying to navigate around. Unfortunately until N3V address the alpha-transparency issue in their "new" game engine for the older trees, it's not really practical to use those.

If you are interested in the Puffing Billy line, I suggest that you join this forum. http://forum.victrainz.com.au/viewforum.php?f=3 I have a feeling that the PBR may be under construction, if not you will get a lot of help.

The original route was made by Peter Hilton <pgh3>. He was talking some time back about working on the extension to Gembrook but I think he may have dropped the idea.

Hi Vern
If you want any info for the Puffing Billy line for Trainz, please feel free to let me know. The line is my 'local' heritage railway. I volunteer up there at their museum at Menzies Creek generally once per week (although haven't been for a couple of weeks now).

Sadly, the dense vegetation isn't really viable to accurately reproduce in any real form in Trainz. That said, my idea would be to use SpeedTrees up close (you would really need some custom Mountain Ash trees though IMO), and then about 50-100m out, go over to old style billboard trees. This should give a pretty good effect from the train. You could probably go 50m up the hill, 100m down the hill.

On the other hand, a 1920s or 1930s period layout, covering Upper Ferntree Gully to Gembrook (rather than from Belgrave) would, theoretically, be easier since most of the trees around the line were basically clear felled. Not all areas, the 'parks' are generally areas that weren't cleared. I think this applied to Belgrave -> Menzies Creek (semi cleared in this case, look for current farmland as an indication :) ), and Nobelius -> Cockatoo.
