Is there a way to have the sim tell me the current setting of a switch (not the overlays)

I'm settling into using AutoDrive and Control Junctions 3 for my AI passenger trains. I am setting a default position on each of the junctions in each of the lines (High Speed, Mainline, and Branch) so that a minimum number of junction changes are required for a run. The switches I'm struggling with are the double slips, of which there are quite a few. None of the switch indicators seem to work so I'm down to running a train across and seeing what happens. It doesn't help that they all seem to be trailable, Nor does it help that the show path on junction change often gives me a Y shaped path. Most of all it doesn't help that I think I'm struggling conceptually with double slips. A normal junction is obvious. It has an entry and an exit. You set it left and the train goes out on the left branch. If you're coming from the exit side you just do a little reverso. I'm coming in on the right hand track so the switch needs to be set left. I can see there are four switches that are locked into pairs at each end but are they four switches facing out or four switches facing in?

I'm wondering if there is a way to post a message in game (or some other method) that will tell me of the setting of a switch so I can know what my default settings should be in the route layer and what I should send to the CJ3 command when in Driver.

One easy fix would simply be to have a speed sign through the turnout - whichever track is diverging will almost certainly need to have a slower speed limit through the points. Between that and procedural track you should have no problems.

Real life interlockings are also protected by signals that will normally have some indication on which way you're going - route signalling or speed signalling will almost always show a different aspect through a turnout.
