Is creating Sessions a waste of time ?

The inflexibility issue - using the wye at Cooper means that the engine has to couple to what was the rear of the train when it was inbound. The next time that train comes back to Cooper, it has to do the same thing. But, the car at the end of the train the second time in is not the same car as on the first time in. So, the user has to intervene sometime between those two runs to change the coupling command. Guess you could make a set of commands of double length to cover both situations, but that is something I'd like to avoid.

hi have you searched for other couple commands for instance, couple at trackmark, couple to vehicle facing signal, etc, these will help with this problem

There are other problems -- sometimes you want to do something at the beginning or ending that won't be done again in a session - like bringing an engine in from the engine house, making up a consist, and then going on with repetative activity like commodity hauling. But then you can't use the Repeat capability because you can't specify where to begin the repeat.
Dick

have you tried the copy commands rule, you could have the train get set up, then insert a copy commands from library command, the part you want to repeat, with an enable repeat command at the end should do this.

cheers

Thanks Gav and Norm!

Yes, there is a CoupleToVFacingTrackmark rule at the DLS - I'll try it out.

I had not checked the fine print on the ordered list or copy commands rules, so did not know what they are for -- I appreciate your bringing my attention to them. I'll try them, too. The site, www.js-home.org/trainz says you should use the Schedule Library Rule with Copy Commands, so I downloaded it.

Thanks, again - this should make things easier.

I know this was mentioned a while ago but I just want to double check. You can upload sessions for routes that aren't your own (as long as you don't upload a different version) WITHOUT permission from the route creator? If that is the case I have created sessions for routes I've downloaded and thought "People might enjoy this, but am I allowed to upload it?"

Also, routes are great and sessions are great but both together is just brilliant. Keep reating sessions and scenarios for your routes because some (including me!) like to see other's work!:D

sure as long as you havent added any trackmarks or moved anything there is no reason why youd need permission, before upload that it is the original map that he session belongs to, it is quite easy when creating a session to inadvertantly create a new copy of the map.

if the session has been created as part of a new map, even if not changed, the mapkuid in the session config file would be wrong.

cheers

You can upload any session you have done as long as it refers to the map as it is on the DLS (no alterations to the map). It is no different than you putting a map on the DLS, you dont need permission from content creators to use the content unless you change the content.

Expect to see a few sessions coming soon from me!

Those who read my post in the TRS2004 forum about LNER locos know I'm creating an LNER era route. That will have a session or two to go with it. But progress has ground to a halt and I need something else to do while I get inspiration.

Thanks for the info

If you upload a session for someone else's route, just be aware that they may release a later version of the route which changes the placement of triggers, track marks etc to suit their own sessions, and that this may affect the operation of your sessions also (possibly to the point of 'breaking' them).

For my own route I would try to retain backward compatability if I could, but this is not guaranteed.

I think what you load into you PC will not change unless you up-load again with the new changes from them, which only then would change what you did to it.

Hi, i think its a good idea for routes to be uploaded as new for this reason, not as a kuid2, theres plenty of creators do it, with just a diferent version number on the route name, everybody knows its the same route but doesnt break anything

cheers

For sessions for WeddinNSW V2 search for my kuid 56603.

At the moment you should find the following:

'Industry Base' - (designed for you use as the basis of your own session - just place your own trains and run)
'The Cowra Mixed' (A hands free demo runs for hours)
'U Drive 1 - Passenger' (follow the prompts)
'U Drive 2 - Wheat' (follow the prompts)

In response to a couple of suggestions above I will be uploading an updated WeddinNSW V2.1 some time sooon, which will pull these down automatically. I also hope to upload a couple more 'U Drive' sessions, when I get a chance to experiment with the save/restore sessions problem.

I think if you put the complete kuid number (kuid2:******:123456:2) into the config of the session, include the version number, it will only look for that version map.

Okay I put author ID --your number
category--session and I get there are NO items to display.

Don

It sounds like you are using CMP to search the DLS. To find my stuff using Author Id you would theoretically specify either #56603 or FootPlatePhil. Having said that, when I did a search via CMP none of my latest stuff showed either! Its only been there about 3 weeks, so CMP may not have twigged to it yet (or maybe for me its because I have local copies - who knows, CMP is often hard to fathom).

The fallback, and in my experience, more reliable way, to find stuff on the DLS is to use the Download Station menu option at the top of this forum page.

If you are searching the download station using the menu option above you need to tick the KUID and 2006 buttons, then type the KUID number I gave (this time without the #), before clicking 'Search'.

Phil

I tried your number --also your name. No downloads found. This was on download station. You DO call them sessions don't you? Maybe this is why not very many download your sessions.

Try it with TRS2004 ticked. Then I see three sessions listed:
LastDaysOfSteam kuid:56603:101377
HarvestTime kuid:
56603:101375
HarvestTime kuid:
56603:101023

They are the old versions sessions.

Sardon, I see the problem. When you select Category=Session in the Search Screen they don't appear. I suggest you try Category=ALL instead. I don't know why the DLS does not list them as sessions (it has them as Scenrios, although in my CMP they are listed as sessions).. But they are there. When I search the DLS I see them all....
