Irritating Noises

^ I can't even open that file. [And I have learned to be VERRRRRY careful with Trainz files, since the game is so unstable. I've lost entire routes before, just from altering a file --- routes that have taken me weeks and weeks, nay MONTHS to complete. Don't get me wrong. This is the best Train Sim out there, but it's very easy to lose a lot of work in one instant.]

I guess there's no solution to my problem. Like Airtime said, "When I was using trainz 2006, I would notice on going sounds in the background of brakes hissing and coaches banging together, eventhough what I was viewing on screen was an empty country station, with not a train in sight." That is what I'm experiencing. Even an hour into the game, and with no trains around for miles, I still hear these sounds. And, like I said, it's irritating.

Oh well, I guess it's time to end this thread...............:(

By any chance do you live near a real RR track ?

I know how you feel...the CSX runs 500 yards away from my GF house, and sometimes gives VERY realistic RR/Trainz sound efects.

LOL! Well, BNSF and UP both run on tracks about a mile from my home (2 diamonds here in my town!), but it isn't THESE trains I'm hearing!

Haha I have the same problem with Tc i left it one while i slept i kept waking to what sounded like a drummer with a bad scene of beat, clacking the sticks

Yes, I know there are some sound effects that are vital to the game. "the special rumble when going through a turnout, the squeal when going round a sharp curve, etc." like you say. But these CRASHING/BANGING sound effects aren't necessary when the train is stopped.

Does anyone else hear these sounds???

yes i hear them, and often run with the sound turned off for that very reason. and yes, me too, not the logical sounds that come from/are made by a train in motions, but a constant background of a kind of random hodge podge of them, the is, so to speak, the "background music" that begins when trainz is first opened, and makes no sense once a layout is running and the actual sounds of the train you're running is there to replace them, nor do they make sense in surveyor mode, where i seem to recall they persist as well (i may be mistaken about the latter, i'll have to check).

ambient sounds i place deliberately in a route, those i expect to be there in surveyor of course, although the first time i heard a fog horn go off from a lighthouse i had placed, it took me forever to figure out that's what THAT was.

but no, this problem, has nothing to do with that, or anything, its just the opening hodge podge of "trainlike" sounds continuing, not those sensibly pertinent to anything actually going on.

believe me, i've grown up in, on and around trains and railroading and know what sounds to expect when and where and when and where not to.

Yes, there ARE sounds in Surveyor mode, but all I hear in Surveyor are an occasional scraping sound or a hissing noise. Don't know what this is supposed to represent. But it is a bit annoying as well.

The sound I find most annoying is the click clack as the train moves down the track in Trainz2009, because the sound is always exactly the same. There's no natural variation in the sound as there should be, so it becomes really tiresome.

Yeah, that's what I was going for! I figured "why not mess with him a little?":hehe:

Okay, actually, I was trying to help, sorry it didn't work out.:(

He's suggesting you alter the .ja file to remove the sounds that are bothering you, but to do so would require an un-ethical move on your part.

What is so un-ethical about wanting to customize a game that you own to suit your own needs?

Maybe unethical is the wrong word. I imagine the ja files are not intended to be cracked; however a person deals with that issue is up to their own morality, I suppose.

I feel as if it is what you do with the files after you crack them is what will decide whats moral. If I shared it with people or told them how to do it I would agree but since it is for my personal use ONLY I don't feel as if is that bad...

davesnow;

I'm a noob to this board, but I've been playing Trainz2006 for a couple of years. I've noticed the sound myself when going into Driver mode, but it lasts for a couple of seconds then stops. It does not matter if I go into one of my layouts or one that came with the game. It's an intermittent problem and does not happen all the time. I can't imagine putting up with it for 30 minutes, the sound quality is bad enough.

An unrelated noise problem that I've noticed is that on certain locomotives I can hear the bell (at a lesser volume) when I'm 5 to 10 boards away from it.

Mike

There is always a volume selector on your PC, turn it down, or almost off. Listen to a RR sound effects CD, or buy a MRC SoundStation/SyncroSound effects simulator, to make your own sound effects...it never really bothered me that much, the anbient sounds in Trainz.:p

I'm making a wild guess here, but do you happen to have any of Frank's locomotives in the vicinity? They have these small air hissing sounds in both driver and surveyor.

Cheerio,
Nicholas.

The hissing noises is the air being pumped through the system and exhausting when brakes are applied, just like a real train does!!!!
Cheers,
Mike
