Hi pfx,
With much respect it is a wee bit hard for you to be some kind of passing third party so to speak as you are generally of the same stance as DomSarto even allowing for differences in portrayal. There are 2 of you on the same side and one of me so you can hardly expect me to agree with your summation which naturally has an inbuilt bias! Of course you are 100% right about his corner and mine. Neither of us is going to apologise for our views of course! My satirical touch doesn't resonate with you and that's life in a sense but when you consider how your Alex Salmond acts, speaks and harangues, I count myself as a veritable amateur compared to him. It is unfortunate you are not happy with my views but that could be returned of course but I don't want to get bogged down with our background differences. So what you say can apply to more than just me. That is not in any unkind way to you nor him. Reasonableness must work on two sides both Dom and me not one.
It is a pity that you have been effected by recent street troubles over there which is sad and I have no problem with protests as long as peaceful and not violent whichever side is doing physical stuff. Neither do I have any argument with those who argue on the principle of a united Ireland. Again as long as peaceful but I must remind you that it is from both of your traditions that we had decades of bombs and killings to get it in the wrong way. Only the ballot box shoud be used. They even sadly killed folk in their own communities. Obviously not all but that corner of things. Note too that killing and attempted killing is still going on from the violents in their illegal aims. Silly Nationalists/Republicans in NI are no different from silly loyalists As for parity of esteem that is also lacking in a wider picture than given here. Over 300 lodge halls attacked or destroyed. Three years ago a young man trying to burn one down fell off the roof and got a broken leg. He was a member of the SF youth wing. No parity there then. NI or Ulster is British whether some don't like it. Neither is it any less Ulster having lost 3 Counties than Ireland which lost 6! Obviously I am not going to change my view any more than your goodself or your associate Domsarto but the picture is wider than just your opinions obviously.
Secondly, for years I did indepth voluntary work in a challenging area here and it was amongst both main religions and was widely appreciated by all even a local priest complimented me. Two nuns and I got on well and I took them both to lunch on separate occasions. A trainee priest and I were also close. Not bad for a loyalist Prod! In time I was given an important public civic position which I carried out to as near perfection as possible. At one time thought strongly against the view I kew the Young Communist organiser here we argued but got on. Not that his lot amounted to much mind you. I also took on a public debate with the late Pastor Jack Glass who I totally disagreed with. What I must also make clear is that you do not really know me and forums cannot give a proper appraisal as it is so detached. In association with that I do not wish for DomSarto and I to regard each other as hate figures nor get the swords out to refight battles and that would be rather sad if it came to that point. He has done valuable Trainz stuff which I have complimented as you and hopefully what I am doing will compliment both efforts. Equally, I must say that you did influence on one matter when you did those excellent NIR repaints and that was the DART. It made me think about contuing further south and include the Howth (and Tara) Lines! By the way I now have an active NIR railbus for the Portrush run.
For now i hope I am not biting off more than I can chew trying to do the Enterprise as it took me one heck of a crawl to do the 96 odd miles from Belfast to Londonderry and going through it all again (!). But if we all think positive just imagine if that was manageable. This could well open all sorts of possibilities for even further IR matters as the NIR is nearly done. People would then be able to run your and his items on rails where they are suited. Hopefully we get over the zilch and we can for now put Trainz first. On and before I forget if you need to contact me in the future sometime with that Trainz query, I will be happy to be of use. Well hope we got by the hump and my intention to portray the Emerald Isle and the efforts of you and Dom will interact with all we are doing.
Warm regards to you and DomSarto.
