Invisable portals

Adding sea traffic to the Tidewater point route and was wondering if anyone has made an invisable portal yet for the ships to come out of.

thanks for your help

There is an invisible portal called Portal Basic that produces trains. Some Trainz users have made driveable boats ranging from paddle boats to tug boats and ships that are avaliable on the Download Station. Search for "boat" and "ship" with "locomotives" selected in the "Category" menu. It is possible to have these come out of the portal, but scenery items cannot.

Hope this helps!

thank you for the help....i was hoping for a portal that is on invisable track...if i am not mistaken the portal basic has track on it...which will work for the time being, but i was hoping to not see the track is all.

thanks for the help

Just attach invisible track to it. The track it uses changes to whatever track you connect it to.

I'm not certain if Portal Basic has the ability, but I know some interactive objects (including portals) can change their track to match what's connected to it. Have you tried Re-rail portal basic or even Portal Basic Short?

Shane

EDIT: Captainkman beat me to it, but the portal suggestions are still valid.

now that the portals are in i have another problem....the ship "derails" before it even gets out of the portal...i am using portal basic.

any help would be apreciated

I've seen this happen with portals. It is usually a problem with the vehiccle being emitted. Make sure it has no errors.

Additionally make sure the portal is completely on a baseboard and not dangling in mid air. Also I wonder if the length of a ship exceding the length of the portal rail could be of influence on derailments.

Greetings from sunny Amsterdam,

Jan

Not sure if this is directly related to your problem, but do make sure that there is sufficient distance between the portal entrance and the first junction to handle the train. (This also applies to signals)

thanks for all the help guys.

I ran some tests this morning on a blank baseboard with one each of the builtin portals and still no good.

I made sure the portals where fully on the baseboard and there where no signals or junctions on the route and still it derails as soon as it shows up in the portal.

I trying to use one of the tankers from Ianz Trainz and am wondering if it is because the portals are not hight adjustable so when the ship comes into the portal it is in the ground.

thanks

Bill,

What asset are you trying to emit from the portal. Perhaps we can replicate what you are doing to see if we can see what is causing the problem. I will send you a PM with my e-mail address so that you can send me a cdp of your test route and session and I will run it on my machine. I will also take a look at portals because I am sure that one has been made that is height adjustable

does not matter which season/route you try to do it on....i am using Ianz Amanda Stewart Tanker which is kuid2:60238:9518:2 on the download station.

Like I said I have tested it on just a blank baseboard with a portal and some track. Using the emit train now rule, as soon as it becomes visible in the portal it derails. I have not tried it yet without the emit train now rule but i can not imagine any diffrent result.

thanks for the help again

Have you tried the re-rail portals? It may make a difference.

Also, make sure you have given it some commands, as without commands it may roll back into the portal.

This is not a problem with the re-rail portal. The re-rail portal can even emit a string of traincars without an engine.

This is what I would do: Click the "Edit Properties" icon then click on the portal. Set the Tanker ship as the first consist, and add a driver. Give it some commands too. Set the portal so it produces the train you have selected every so often, 10 to 15 minutes maybe. Try getting another portal for trains going out of the map, and set that one to consume trains. Give the trains a command like: go to "dockside 1" (a trackmark), go to portal 2 (the portal that consumes trains).

Hope this helps!
