Intel's Nehalem /X58 chipset due in october

Actually, I am as I'm planning a new PC to provide a suitable home for TC3 and TS09. However, it would help if you or John could provide us with a translation about what this 'Nehalem' thing might mean. (It sounds almost Biblical) :hehe:

It should be about the fastest thing on the planet for running Trainz by a fairly wide margin, say 30%. Probably priced up there but it will force all the other cpus prices to fall, it should become mainstream in 2009.

Translation expect to see substantial cpu price drops when it comes out and if you worry about your electricity bill it will be cheaper tomrunmforba given level of performance.

Cheerio John

Basically, the difference between this and normal motherboards is that the processor can "talk" to other components through a new design of interface. As John has already said, this will lead to better performance by a margin of 20-30%.

That sounds rather interesting. I'm planning on building a new system in the next 6months, or so, so I might wait and build up the money for the Nehalem and X58.

Over simplification of the process :)

For the Bloomfield XE , P1 and MS3 LGA1366 Enthusiast parts only .... Mainstream Lynnfield and Clarksfield LGA1160 parts to be released H2 2009 will still benefit from Nehalem microarchitecture performance increases , but not to the extent of Bloomfield > No QPI and no triple channel .

FWIW

The code name "Nehalem" comes from the tribe of Native American's that inhabit the Tillamook area in Oregon.

Hmm, now I'm baffled again!

So what can I expect to see in, say, Dec/Jan and what sort of ballpark for price? (I've given myself a budget of £1,000-£1,300 not including monitor.)
