Inconsistent lag in TRS2019: what can I do to reduce it? [solved]

Hello everyone. I've had this issue in the game for a long time now, and I thought it would be about time that I posted it. Whenever I'm playing the game (placing locomotives, riding them, stopping and starting them), the game lags inconsistently. When there are no trains placed in driver, the game runs about 50fps. When I place a locomotive (whenever it's a 3rd party one or a built-in one), the game already starts to lag when I open the edit train panel. The game drops from 50fps, to 19 for a few seconds, then back to 50. Same deal with placing locomotives, starting them, stopping them, the list goes on. I've tried this on the lowest game settings, and I've got the same issues. Could someone help me out here? I didn't have this issue on T:ANE, and it really stops me from enjoying the game.

My video card is a pretty good one: a Geforce GTX 1060. If you guys need more specs from my PC, let me know

This could be caching. Is there a message at the top of your screen while placing the assets?

There are some things that might help with this since this is actually disk related.

1) Disable your antivirus from real-time scanning not only the program folder but also the program data, i.e. your content.

Antivirus programs go nuts with this program because of the data files being decompressed from archives - those .tzarc files, and will scan every file touched, looked at, thought of being used, etc. This constant disk access will slow things down, but usually things recover once the asset is placed. This can also cause awfully choppy operations as well because the assets get scanned upon loading up in real-time.

2) Are you running from a regular hard drive?

If you are, I highly recommend a defrag operation even if Windows says it's all okay. There's a lot of little files and folders here that are being opened, closed, accessed, and deleted. This causes a large amount of fragmentation. I say this from experience as I have found much better performance after a disk defrag, which only takes a few minutes unless the drive is in really bad shape.

Remember you can't do this with an SSD and only a TRIM operation is available. That doesn't help with speed, but it does help with clearing up old deleted data and freeing up cells that can be written again.

Thank for the reply, appreciate it. TRS2019 is installed on my SSD, so is the local data folder. I turned off real-time scanning in my antivirus software (Windows Defender), but that didn't solve the issue. I still get a lot of dropped frames when starting a locomotive and stopping it

UPDATE: So the issue get's fixed when I press F5, so I guess the game starts to lag when the number of the speed changes. The game still lags when I don't press F5 and when all the buttons are still there

Let me understand what you're saying here - that the HUD is causing the lagging experienced during your session runs?
When you hit the F5 show/hide HUD toggle, the lagging disappears?
What CPU are you rocking? Appears to be having difficulty computing changes you're making to the session and then updating/ incrementing the HUD elements.
Once done, however, things should become steadier. Is that the case?

Excellent - Thanks for updating us on this matter.
The Ryzen 2700X is a vastly superior processor over your previous AMD Fx one.
AMD have made great strides recently with their processors and next year's batch of 7nm Zen processors look to improve core IPC performance values much further.

Good move.
I built A Ryzen rig as I was curious as to how they would perform, it's a first generation Ryzen 5 1600, it works incredibly well with a GTX1060 and TRS19 and even better with a GTX980TI ex my main i7 rig which got a 1080TI which is unbeatable.

Less said about AMD's FX CPUs the better!
