For preference I use Paintshop pro XI, you can find it fairly cheaply on ebay, watch out for compressed .tga, Trainz only likes uncompressed .tga files. So locos will be easy to reskin, others much harder it depends how the textures have been mapped.

well tried it and found out I just dont have the time or patience. so I guess my route will just run whats on the dls! thanks for the response

Me thinks you give up too easily. Reskinning is a gift, and those who take the path are well rewarded. What, exactly, did you have your heart set upon? Pictures would do well, and kuids, if you are seriously asking for help. This one will have time over the next month, if what you desire is within the realm of doing...

I was looking for some fwwr loco's to run on my ft worth route I am working on. wouldnt say its prototype quailty but will be very close to it. (hopefully). seen some gp50's @ RRMods going to get them this weekend but would like some of the older equipment they have run i.e gp7,gp38,gp sd40-2 I guess shortlines dont really get much attention like the class I roads do.
pics can be seen at the following links

If you like I'll give it a shot. Although I'm the first to say I don't like diesels but I do enjoy doing reskins. Bear in mind I'm still an amateur reskiner.

There is a technique called adding planes then texturing the plane that can sometimes be used where the original is oddly mapped. Also you can increase the texture size, TS2009 and above has texture compression at 4:1 so double the texture in both dimensions to add more detail. If you have a fairly flat on photograph then Paintshop pro or photoshop can adjust the view point to make it exactly flat on and thus suitable for reskinning, a fair number of my UK wagons were done using this technique. You need to own the copyright of the photo though if you are uploading to the DLS but if its for yourself that isn't a consideration.

Here's an early idea as per the color of the first picture. As for the 4-6-0 I like it! Do you have a model in mind?

Dave any gp7 would look good.. just happy people are willing to help out.
Euphod appericate the offer anyway.
Splatter seen those and plan on getting them friday. but those where the only FWWR's I could find and wouldnt mind some older equipment for Industry switching

I'm sorry if this doesn't fill the bill as I still learning but I do need the practice. If you like it then I'll upload it to the DLS for you. I also renumbered it to 4299 if that's OK?

Here we have a stranger in a strange land. The L&A crews ares still wondering what a Texas diesel in doing in Levi Kentucky:hehe:. Oh course the infamous "railfan" couldn't resist taking a few snap shots on private property:p. He has no shame .

I like it even if the colors are a bit off but thats cool makes it look old and weathered. I have just the place to use it.

OK looks as though the old beast has been approved and is on the DLS. Here is the KIUD# 549274:100044.

I hope you can use
.

thanks I will post a screenshot of it in my saginaw yard (as the fwwr hodge yd isnt done yet) once I am able to get it from the dls :)

Thai1on that is a beautiful job, very well done. I have PSP 10 and DXBmp. I haven't a clue how to go about repainting trains but am willing to learn. Can't be any worse than airplanes in FSX.

Harold,

Sometimes I feel reskinning takes away from my route building but at the same time it is a welcome distraction. I started reskinning because I wanted my fictional railroad to have it's own locomotives but then it turned into a monster :hehe:.

I teach conversational English in rural Thailand and I reskin buildings, businesses, signs, and whatever else my students want as it gets them speaking and thinking on how "their" business should look. They have a great time and so do I.

All I can say is once you learn to reskin this hobby will take on a new life for you!
