In-forum advertising?

...snip....

Regarding Tony and the dev site ... I don't believe a single word the man utters because he is also the one who, time and again, told all the fans that Fury would be a success ... just until he, with only two days notice, pulled the plug on the game, the forum and the fans.

You don't believe this?

Re:I was a friend of Zwabberaar 1 Day, 12 Hours ago Karma: 4 It's interesting that the newly found friend of Zwab makes his first post moments after creating his TrainzDev account. It's even more interesting that Moddergooier has the same IP address as Zwab

Have fun,

Does anyone remember the near riot when it was suggested in Rail Simulator to have ingame advertising? If the ingame browser does any of this, I think we'll be in for some pretty amazing fireworks.

Yes, I remember that very well.
People power won in the end, but I don't think it's going to make a difference here.

Doesn't bother me though, because I don't intend to let TRS2009 have access to the Internet anyway, so problem solved. :D

Smiley.

Funny, as you seem more than happy to stand up for the dumbest teenagers and 7 years olds on this forum.
If you are trying to deny that you were banned from TrainzDev, theres a whole thread to the contrary.

Loose the attitude, you arnt a mod and will never be.

For the third one in a row. WHERE am I denying I am banned? Read the sentence again. Think about it a bit ... then some more, then figure out what it means.

To which comment, made by k4driver, does my sentence "wrong ... as usual" refer to?

Not if the ads are "baked" in the game/browser and don't need a connection with the internet :p

Well that would be ok.
It would be easy enough to ignore them if I have to see the browser.
I've refrained from downloading the DEV version of TRS2009 so I'm not sure how intrusive the in-game browser is, and whether it's something that will have to be displayed in the normal running of the game.

I still think their plan is to have Live ads in the browser, which is up to the individual as to whether they allow their game to connect to that, but it's still not as intrusive as EA's original plans.

I agree. In this case for me its simply a matter of waiting. Somewhere in the summer next year I will decide whether TS2009 is worth acquiring or not. Till then I am not going to waste any thoughts about it anymore.

Right next to the Trainz Classics logo at the top of the forum page, but if you have javascript off you probably don't see it.
No, I always have javascript enabled.
ZoneAlarm has some powerful Ad Muncher features, and I rarely see any Ads on the Google search engine either.

Doesn't sound like I'm missing much.

:hehe: ... you aren't indeed. I had ZoneAlarm installed for some time as well but I am not too computer savvy and couldn't get it to "behave" the way I wanted.

I have no problem with this tiny ad here on the forum. It has been done very discrete and hardly noticeable because of the colour used. If it brings in some cash I can understand the decision to introduce it. In-game advertisement is a whole other story though.

Looking up ISP address may be an invasion of privacy

I'm not saying the above wasn't true with the same ISP address, but. . .

You don't believe this?
It's even more interesting that Moddergooier has the same IP address as Zwab
Just because several users may have the same ISP address, doesn't mean it's by the same people. For example, what if it's a public computer, or maybe another member of the family is interested in the same hobby, and uses the SAME computer. I was on a public the other day, and it seems as though another person looked at the Trainz site.

Also, if owners of forums are looking up the addresses, that if I'm correct may possibly against privacy laws in certain countries.

Wow, IP addresses are private in your world? :hehe: That's like sending a postcard and saying you're not allowed to look at the postmark to see where the stamp was canceled. Yea I know there are ways of masking IP addresses. :o

Problem with that if it is true is that any country having such laws encourages criminal behavior over the 'net. I currently keep getting this, "You have received an E-greeting card!" email, same one, for some days now. Went to the website of the REAL company first, they had links with info about phishing scams regarding e-cards including ones, "from them," and how to fix the problem. If a country protects someone this way, companies and the rest of us become victims of criminals/hackers we cannot track down.

Does anyone remember what the thread was about before we unlimbered the flame-throwers?
(Hint-Check out the tiny ad in the banner at the top of the page.)
Personally, I don't find the ad intrusive. If it helps in these troubled times, I'm all for it.

 Claude
