Importing TC3 Content Into TRS2006

I want to import all built-in content from TC3 to TRS2006.

I've been told the easiest way to do this is to copy the .ja files. If someone can tell me everything about how to do this it would be much appreciated.

I think you can only import TC3 content into the newer Trainz 2009. At least that's what I've read. :(

Sorry!

I'm with Stovepipe on this. Import the 2006 stuff into TC3.

I'm pretty sure that going "backwards" from TC3 to 2006 won't work and even more sure that just copying the .ja file won't.

TC3 .ja content wont run in 06 because it has a higher build number and is not changeable. Some downloadable content may work by changing the build number but a lot of content is scripted in a different way so may not work anyway.

The steam locos use new code in the TC3 game engine, the scripts are different, amongst other things. You could import the buildings but to be honest you are better off renaming the TRS2006 .ja files to TRS2006xyz.ja and copying them into the TC3 folders.

Ok One More Thing

I currently own TRS2006 and TC3. I've bought TRS2004 and am thinking of getting TC1 and 2. Will it be necessary to import all built-in content for all these games? Which don't I have to worry about as the assets are the same?

Finally, provided i have all the right assets, will my custom routes all work just as they are if imported into TC3? And if the time comes and i eventually buy it, will it be just as easy to dump all the built-in content from these games into TRS2009?

P.S. I can't find it ANYWHERE!!! I'm in NSW AUSTRALIA and i can't find TRS2009 in any shops. I have to order it from Victoria on Ebay.

Im Gormless

It just occurred to me. Could all the built-in problems be solved by simply buying TRS2009? It's supposed to have all TRS2006 built-in content as well as the content from all the Classics games as well.

TS2009 does not have the TC3 built in content. There are ways to transfer it.

TRS2006 contains all the TRS2004 built in content.

TS2009 contains all the built in content from TRS2004, TRS2006, TC1/2, and TRS2007.

Finally

So I grab a copy of TRS2009, get the TC3 content and import it as those links told me to and Happy Days?

P.S. Is the Content Manager different in TRS2009 than it is in TRS2006? I hope it isnt too complicated

If you are willing and able to buy 2009 then this is by far the easiest way to go. Importing the TC3 content is straightforward. I did it a couple of weeks ago using a set of instructions posted on the forums (sorry I don't have a link).

Service Pack 2 for 2009 has just been released. If I were you I would wait until the build version of 2009 for a new purchase (Download or DVD) is brought up to SP2 (Currently 40040) before purchasing, this will save you having to do a patch. It is possible that this is already the case - anybody know?

Personally I would order 2009 from Auran to ensure I had the latest build (I had mine on DVD and it only took a couple of days to arrive).

The Content Manager (CM2) in 2009 is very similar in style, layout etc. to CMP in 2006 but much improved. 2009 Surveyor also has improved filtering of content (look for the "Funnel" icon).

Nope

I just tried to import TRS2006 content to TC3. It did most of the stuff but i need it to contain all the Trainz Routes stuff as well. And it didn't put all the built-in content into the game either, just what the routes and sessions needed. And it deleted and moved all my consist to weird places.

It's back to TRS2006 for me. At least i know everything works with that and everything is where it is supposed to be.

I sure hope TRS2009 isn't going to be like this.
