I have recently got another invitation (supposedly from here) which with a program previews emails before being totally sent, but this invitation claims it was from a Trainz member.

The email it is sent to is also odd. It shows to @ Trainz Discussion Forums (including the spaces). I've tried a search for the possible user, and it doesn't show.

The domain name that it ends in shows @facebookmail.com, not just facebook.com

I did see another member say that someone attempted to get into his/her account last night.

I suspect this may be a fake invitation, but if it is not, then please see below:

PLEASE NOTE: If this is a geniune invite for Facebook, I require that that person and/or people stop it immediately, and if sent automatically to turn it off.

Facebook scam

This is most definitely a fake email. Do not reply to it and do not at any give out personal or other details. These scams a quite common now. Have had several attempts tried on me.

As said before, do not use facebook or anything similar.

Any emails regarding these sites get deleted.

Do not click on any links in them.

Dennis

I had one yesterday from Auran which stated that someone had made numerous attempts to acces my forum account and thus locked it temporarily.

Ah - the classic phishing scam.

If you are not expecting such an email, best thing to do is to simply delete it.

Ones from @facebookmail.com or @facebookappmail.com are usually sent from facebook applications (which I know some can be dodgy)

It's the same with emails from the banks - they will never email things like that to you - if it's something important they will phone you.

A recent thread I came across on this forum showed that Auran are on Facebook ?

Is it possibly related ?

I would certainly agree with others that it is ofcourse a scam.

I am sure glad not to be a member of these so-called perverted social networking sites.

If it strikes your curiosity as to where it came from, open the header of the received e-mail and run a "WHOIS IP" search as another means of finding out any reletive info on the senders IP address.

Cheers,

Yes, I do know what to do with those email invites, but I was more concerned that if person XYZ sent it, (supposedly from Trainz Discussion Forum), wouldn't they have to be a registered on these forums to send?

I did get an invite before from here, but that was confirmed as geniune after I private messaged the member.

Think before ya leap!

I wouldn't join Facebook ... if you paid me
I waited so long to look into it, but since I have, I don't even open Yahoo anymore. Facebook is so far above the rest! And they even have a Railroad Empire game I like! Farmville is really fun too! As for spam, I have gotten many calling themselves a facebook component when in fact they are not. Facebook is going to start a mail service, but I don't think it is active yet, so this is probably a spam.

Its a place where you can plaster your face all over the internet, and reveal all your private confidential information about yourself, in a profile, all over the world ... for others to use.:hehe:

And you can grow virtual Gardens and harvest crops from your Farms, I believe ... what a great simulator

But, gosh, so much more than that! You can let the world know when you pass gas (or is that more suitable for Twitter?), you can share with the world when your are cramping, camping or receiving the Nobel prize! You can sort through endless friend requests, and even more from people you don't know, need to know or want to know. And you can deal with contacts from long ago that you have put behind you and mistakes you have made and chalked up to the ignorance and exuberance of a wasted youth!

"Get off my lawn!" Indeed.

I'm sitting in my basement reading what youse guys have rittin. Now I feel that I am finally one with the "Hive Mind." Ahhhhhh...I don't feel alone anymore...the hive mind is all...and all knowing...glory to the hive! :D

Cheers,
Phred
