Mods - if you feel this should be elsewhere, please move it accordingly.
This thread contains advice on things that are likely to be different when doing certain things with a Steam version of Trainz.
Patching
As some Steam users have already found out, with the possible exception of TS2009, Steam users of Trainz will find that they will not be able to install any patches for their version.
This will affect:
Folder References
For Steam versions, the folder reference will be a subfolder of <Steam Client install folder>/steamapps/common. (<Steam Client Install folder> should be replaced by the actual path to your Steam Client folder, usually C:/Program Files/Steam or C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam).
This will affect:
The usual proceedure for running the game as administrator involves modifying the properties for the Trainz shortcut. In the Steam version, this is not possible. The fix (detailed at http://trainz.shaneturner.co.uk/tutorials/index.php?page=running-as-administrator) must be applied to the shortcut to launch the main Steam Client. Note that this will have the effect of a UAC box appearing at startup, as well as affecting all installed Steam games.
If there's anything I've missed out, please reply to this thread.

Patching
As some Steam users have already found out, with the possible exception of TS2009, Steam users of Trainz will find that they will not be able to install any patches for their version.
This will affect:
- Ability to install certain DLC (Downloadable Content) - for example, the Aerotrain cannot currently be installed into a Steam version.
- Multiplayer (TS12) - the Steam version, due to the lack of patches (which is not N3V's fault), cannot support Multiplayer properly, as it requires the very latest patches which Steam versions cannot install.
- Installation of certain Downloadable Content, especially if it has been installed as a standalone version)
