I'm losing my memory

Lacker

Border Reiver
This not only applies to me, but my PC as well!!

For the past month the PC has been experiencing BSODS, in ever increasing frequencies. I have conducted some tests, which indicates that one of my 2 PC2 6400 2GB memory modules, is resigning it's commission, on health grounds. This means I will have to replace both modules, to ensure compatibility. As it seems PC2 is being phased out, in favour of PC3, I am thinking this is probably the best and last chance to do an upgrade.

Investigations have revealed, I can get 8gb of Kingston PC2 6400 800MGz at about the same price as, 4gb Kingston HyperX or Crucial Ballstix PC2 8500 1066MGz. My problem is, I don't know which combination would give the best results. My CPU is an Intel e6600, which has a bus of 1066MGz, so my thinking is, PC2 8500 might be more compatible.

Any advice would be appreciated.:)

Regards Bruce

My investigation has revealed that I have 8 gb of ram in a pouch on my comp.
Hyper x, khx6400d2k2/2g , x2.
Corsair xms2, cm2x2048-6400c4dhx, x2.
The corsair @800mhz and I guess the hyper x also. I ran them in matched pairs (dual channel).
If your interested pm me.

fran1, I have PM'd you, as per your suggestion.

Ex-r, thanks for the suggestion I will see if they are cheaper than the mighty 'Amazon'.

All I need now is a definitive answer to:- Which is the better option? 8Gb 800MHz or 4GB 1066GHz.

Ex, regarding MrMemory when I was building my new rig last year I ran their "Memory Advisor" and they sold me 8 Gig of Dane-Elec RAM. A couple of months of BSOD's followed until I found out the RAM wasn't on the Approved list for my mobo.I'd never touch them again as they cost me a couple of hundred quid.

Hello Alan,

Long ago, I used to use a company called Ram King UK for my memory sticks, but, I'm sure their website got hacked unfortunately and I couldn't access anything recent of theirs from another source, so, I tried these other folks, only the once, but, I didn't have any problems, however, I'm obliged with your information and will look elsewhere in future then, good thing we only need RAM sticks every couple of years, or, so.
