Hi all Im back again! This time I dont think I will be using TRS 2006. Reason being is because West Coasts Trainz site is gone and I really liked Franks content. Any thoughts on what version of Trainz I should get? Is it really all the way up to TRS 2012 now? I know I know I been gone for too long!

I know how you feel. I went to trainz 12 from trainz 2006 and the first time playing I was amazed with the graphics which the reason i upgraded because i didn't like trainz 2006 graphics. I'm not sure about trainz 2009 and 2010.

If your machine can handle it, go directly to TS12. TS2009 and TS2010 were transitional versions. TS12 has all the features of the previous versions plus some extras like built-in multiplayer support, better smoother graphics, etc.

Cool seems like people really like Trainz 2012. I'm actually planning to get a new computer soon that will pack quite a punch, perhaps maybe a quad core or something... Ill have to checkout Trainz 2012!

Thanks for the responses!!

I have been tempted by TS12 ... but am told that TS10 is better, for various reasons: TS12 has faults, and has non-compatability mode ... now I am again teetering in the brink, deciding which to buy.

My worst gripe with TS12 is copy and paste in the surveyor route editor screws things up, and a few other bugs have been reported by others.

For pure running tho, testing with the same routes, same trains, same locations, same camera angles, and same display settings there's no difference at all between TS2010 and TS12 in either appearance or performance on my system.

That's where a lot of the conflicting opinions come from, one guy tries a simple route in TS2010 then tries one of the heavily detailed routes in TS12 and says the framerates in TS12 suck - comparing apples and oranges, the same route imported into TS2010 would give the same FPS - if all the display options and detail sliders are set exactly the same in both games, the most common thing that testers miss.

TS12 has a volume control, a slider to reduce tree detail, and doppler effects, along with new routes and trainsets. I never used compatibility mode in TS2010 anyway, so I really don't miss it, I'm just waiting for all the patches to be patched before I move route development from TS2010 to TS12. I am periodically saving my WIP route to a CDP and installing in TS12 to check, some of the dependencies have those yellow warnings about no thumbnail and obsolete build number, but it runs the same in TS12 as it does in TS2010.

I would wait until later this year to buy TS2012, so all the patches are installed into the cd and the bugs are sorted out. I myself will be going to get TS1012 around christmas along with multiple other addons. As when I am finish with upgrading my PC. If I was you I would buy TS2010, I say it is the most stable and best proformer of the series for me with the least amount of problems. It is up to you though.

I wanna get TS 2012, because TS 2010 reminds me of TS 2006. I like all the Doppler Effects and stuff in TS 2012.

Compatibility

Hi,
I read your posts. I started at TRS2004 and had them all (until a robbery lost my 2004 and 2009). I have some compatibility problems with TS12. TS 12 does not see my serial number , so I cannot download stuff from the DLS. I did have e-mail conversations with the helpline, but it looks like I will have to live with the problem. The graphics is great and if you have avery high end PC it is a good one to get back in with. I wanted to import stuff from TS2010 , but cannot figure out how. CMP is not that clear. Wish someone can help me out there.

Have fun.

Leon

Solution any stuff you want to install from 2010 save as CDPs then use file import Cdps in TS12

For the fact that you can purchase 2010 for half the price of 12, and throw in the compatibility mode, I would recommend 2010 to anyone. 12 is nice, but the improvements do not trump the price...

OK, but he can't get these:

New Routes

  • Balezino - Mosti
  • Debrecen - Nyiregyhaza
  • ECML Kings Cross - Newcastle
  • Mojave Sub Division
  • Municipal Transit Railway
  • Norfolk & Western - Appalachian Coal
  • Northeast Corridor - Wilmington To Philadelphia
  • Southern China

I don't entirely agree with Sniper and Euphod, on this one, don't get me wrong, I think TS10 is great for backward compatibility, but it comes with a price in depth of view, for if you use old and faulty assets that slow the game down and sap the frame-rate's you will beguine to notice building and trees coming and going out of view Auran put this program in place so that the games FPS would not bog down and crash, which becomes pretty annoying. It was not until I went back to playing TS10 that I realised how good TS12 really was.

By the way only go up to build44088 in TS10 if you want compatibility mode.

Thanks a lot!!!

I'm planning to get the Alienware x14 which I think will be a really sick computer! I was gonna get the MacBook Pro, but you cannot do a lot of gaming on that platform. Plus that are really expensive and you really don't get a lot for all that money that you spend (I think all Apple products are just a status symbol if you ask me, because they are not hardcore gaming machines and I feel like they don't last all that long either compared to PCs. I'm using a 4 year old Compaq Presario F500 and I feel like even when I get my new computer I can still use this one as like a carry around laptop. It still runs that well).

What are some specifications that some of you are using for TS 2012 the make it run so smoothly? I'll share and little video that I saw on YouTube of someone playing TS 2012 and it runs like a champ!

Here it is guys!!
