If I Was To Backdate A JR Engine...

hoborailcat

Backdating is fun.
Yeah, you heard it right. I'd like to backdate some JR engines. More specifically, the NS heritage engines for use in TRS2004. At the moment, I have no desire to upgrade to a new version of Trainz, especially with the computer I have. Even with the loss of features, which I am ok with, is there anything I can do to get them to work? I know I'd have to replace the cab, and there would be some scripting to remove.

I could be wrong here, but, you may well be breaching the payware lic conditions they have and secondly, I don't think even if you could be allowed to backdate the engine, I don't think it could be successfully done.

No it can not be done. Granted maybe two engines work in 06 at the latest but are full of script errors. And by the way they even state not to download into trainz versions below 09.

Maybe TC... but I don't think TRS2004 can be done.

You might be able to, but it'll involve you completely remaking the whole engine in CMP. So, if you know how to put together a config file with CCP... maybe. Yet, I have a feeling it would not be worth your time. Oh, and no air library unless you could figure out how to put it on. TPR I think has the content creator's kit.

Oh, and you'd have to backdate every single dependency. For all locomotives. Fun, isn't it?

Cheers,
Joshua

I've done a bit of work with configs before, and backdating isn't the toughest thing to do, but if they say not to download it into older versions then I'll respect this. Besides, I don't want to work on it and then find that it can't be done after already purchasing it. Perhaps I can skin sporbust's SD70ACe's and ES44AC's into the heritage engines, but that'll take quite a bit of effort as well.

No, you may have misread. They say you can do it, but it's not supported.

as was pointed out before, we will not support this, but if you removed the script entirely, rebuilt the config into a TRS04 type, as well as the dependent config.txt files it just might work. i cant think of anything off hand that would stop the basic model from showing, but that doesn't mean there isn't anything. if you are going to go this route, it is at your own risk.
