Idle curiosity

I am sure someone on here will be able to answer my curiosity... What is the significance of the white diagonal stripe on Mineral Wagons?

Other than to randomly rotate their direction on a consist so they look different, I have no idea why it is there, but it must serve a purpose.

The stripe indicates an end door. Trying to find a picture of an open end door turns out to be challenging, but this pic should make it clear...
