Idiots guide to converting routes from maps to Trainz

DEM's

Fishlipsatwork routes self loaded into TRS2006 in the past for me...you might have to commit that CDP...if you even can't get the route to show up in Trainz...you are going to have a great deal of problems with DEM's in general...not to discourage you or anyone else...DEM's are hard to get track and gradients to stop looking like a 14% Grade Roller Coaster. They make track laying an absolute nightmare...and will make you pull your hair out...not recommended for beginners...but I wish you all the luck !

I just recommited the route and the hog files. I am going to look and see if they are in there now. Well he route did not show up still i wonder if TRS2006 is broken.

G'day theedge2k,

I am sure I am not alone here in failing to understand why you are unable to get the Fishlipsatwork route you have downloaded to work in Trainz (they are designed for ALL versions of Trainz up to and including TS 2009, though it may be a little more difficult to get them into this latter version) - getting them into TRS 2006 should be a "doddle"!! Firstly, what source did you use to download the Fishlipsatwork file? As we speak, I am downloading the "New Jersey" from the Download Station using Download Helper. As far as I am concerned, this WILL proceed according to any other download from this location (a direct install into Trainz - in my case TRS 2004). The route will then be where it should be when I next open Trainz (though I should have perhaps, chosen a smaller route, the download still has 30 minutes to finish - I really must renew my FCT). If you went to fishlipsatwork's own site to download the file, then they are *.cdp files there too. Although you do not have the luxury of the Download Helper, it should be just a matter of going through the normal process of installing an outside *.cdp to get it into Trainz (knowing nothing about TRS 2006, I can offer no advice in this area).

As noted in other posts above, the only major hassle you can have with any of fishlipsatwork's terrains is that the TIGER liners do not show up when the route is installed. This can be overcome by installing the HOG textures (which you say you have done and which can be checked by looking through the available textures in your 'Paint Tab' in Surveyor). Once installed, the textures show up as a separate group under "HOG" (and can actually be applied to any terrain as normal ground textures).

If you have done all of the above correctly, there is absolutely no reason why the terrain (or the actual route, for that matter) does not show in Trainz. We are all at a loss as to your failure in this regard...

P. S..

After the download was completed, opening Trainz revealed the new route to be properly installed with all the TIGER lines displayed in all their glory - the whole process should be no more difficult than that.)...

Thats what I thought but I swear to you. I have downloaded the CDP opened it in CMP and then commited it everything went fine, but it will not show up in TRS2006 surveyor or driver. Thats is why i am starting over and i will need some coaching. I even asked the question why the route would not show up in the Trainz chat room and no ever tried to answer. Sooo i figured just start over and i will make it better. As for what i downloade was Ely-Shafter route i still have the CDP stored. a year ago when i started it i had all the different colored lines on the grey grid. but now i can even get that. I just checked and the HOG textures are not shown in surveyor (unless they are under a different name). I really think that TRS2006 is broken.

G'day theeedge2k,

Oooh! Oooh! I have just remembered reading something somewhere about the filenames created by the *.cdp needing to be changed locally in a directory called "mylocalfiles" (or something like that) in your TRS 2006 installation. I don't remember the exact details (the process is not related to TRS 2004, so I basically ignored it) but if you do a forum search, I'm sure you'll dig it up somewhere along the line...

I just started over on the route and i havce saved it in TRS2006. What would my next step be? I have checked and i see nothing marked HOG textures in surveyor. I even commited them twice in CMP and they still don't show up.

They don't show as 'HOG' in 06 surveyor. Load up a downloaded HOG map and see if you have textures on that - if so your problem lies elsewhere...

G'day theeedge2k,

I'm not sure what you mean by "...I just started over on the route..." but I was not aware that the HOG textures did not show up in TRS 2006 the way they do in TRS 2004. As Dermmy suggests, open the route (which I am currently downloading from the Official Auran Download Station - you haven't actually stated which source you used), to make sure that all is well there but if you have used the equivalent of the Download Helper in TRS 2006, you shouldn't need to 'commit' anything (but then I know little to nothing about TRS 2006)...

HOG

Hog Textures shows up in TRS2006 almost automaticly. If I can open up a CDP and commit HOG Textures in the DLH...anyone else can do it:o ...I can't understand why it doesn't work for you. I used to have so much problems getting Trainz to work...but I now know it wasn't the programs fault. I was making alot of mistakes, so things weren't working well.

just a thought from left field - was the HOG texture folder a .zip or .rar format, and if it was did you unzip it before attempting to import into Trainz.....

The Hog textures were CDP file which i still have on my PC along with the HOG CDP. The route i was and restarting to work on is the Nevada Copper route (Nevada Northern). I am going to do this step by step, that way if i mess up and go to the previous step. I have created the route in surveyor, I need to know where to go next. In case some wants to be froggy, they can download Ely- Shafter from DLS that was the route i was working only the new one will be better. I tried to follow a tutorial and it was so screwed up i could not figure it out. Screen shots of micrdem were wrong or a different version. So now i have a bunch of junk and i do not know how to use it. I have to find MICRODEM 7.0

download hog files

I tried to download the hog files but i cant get them down in vista. When i click and the dialog comes up where i click save the file and choose where i want to save the file. When the downloading is at 99% it comes an dialog box that says cant find the object.
There is no longer in: C:\Users\Pontus\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\7FJC9SCH\hog100[1].zip
Verify the item's location and try again

I can choose between retry and cancel. If i click retry the dialog box disapears and it seem like the downloding is finished but there is no file where i said i want to save it. If i click cancel the downloading is cancelled.
What to do?

Just a hunch, but when it prompts for where to save the download, nominate your desktop. Vista might not like where you are trying to put something it doesn't recognise as friendly....
