I do wish that sometimes - as I do have a few skills when it comes to diagnosing and fixing some system faults, it's always easier when you have the system in front of you.

If I understand things correctly, it is dependent on how the operating system is installed on whether there is going to be issues down the line.

I am aware that some users set their Trainz folder to Read/Write for all users, but this only solves part of the problem.

Hi Shane,

Nearly two years since I fault find in TS2009. I'm currently at TS12 patch 2. Many bugs fixed in meantime.

A few suggestions to try:

The fact that he has patched up to SP3 recently AND cannot see assets OR his own creations suggests that database can't find them.

Do EDR. TS2009 does not automatically do a database repair like later versions. Watch out for Location Unknown. If this occurs TAD has not stabilised. Usually exit CM, wait one minute or more and relaunch. Unknowns then appear in correct filters.

If he cannot find assets downloaded in CM DLH he may not have settings at automatic commit. Also check OFE/commit.

Might be beneficial to patch to SP4 build 41844 as can then use TADDAEMON and TrainzUtil to assist in fault find.

Don't remember if Network Diagnostics included but if it is would be worth running to determine connectivity is OK.

Sounds good to me.

Network Diagnostics is present in SP4 (build 44653), just like Taddaemon/TrainzUtil. (I should know, TS2009 SP4 is my main version)

I agree regarding what you have said - I know that an EDR does not happen automatically, unless Trainz has crashed or TADDaemon has closed too early.

P.S. It's a bit off-topic, but are you going to be releasing any updates to your TARDIS update scripts for Asset-X? It's not picking up the 'night' tag correctly, and I think the thumbnails script is replacing existing thumbnail icons with the standard Asset-X one.

I've done extensive work on TARDIS since the initial release.
Have been waiting for Andi to release next version of Asset X.
Asset X 2.0 limits what I can automate and help file does not cover all the script methods. I've had to resort to mandraulic methods to fix some faults.
There are also some bugs. Bit difficult to take care of when N3V hasn't documented.

I have un-installed 2009 and I have reinstalled it and I have patched from 38411 to 40040 to 41844.
I have run as administrator and set firewall to allow trainz 2009, cmp and dls

Since I lost the route I was working on and all the content that I download from the dls, I had nothing to loose, so I have started again.

TARDIS and Thumbnails

If there were thumbnails at 240 by 180 jpg the images will still be there provided their filename was not $screenshot$.jpg.
note that art files should also appear in thumbnails container but these are not the thumbnail file as they are wrong size.
I've had some difficulty in preventing the dummy thumbnail from hogging the limelight. In my case many thousands of times. I'll eventually solve the problem and provide a means of correcting the error.
In meantime you can either rem out that line in TARDIS script using semicolon at beginning of line or substitute just the script method
-MakeThumbnailTable.

TARDIS and Night

Some tag 'night' will not delete using the -Makemeshtable script. Use
-Delete|night saved as Night - Delete.axm as a cleanup.

Not a very smart idea. DLS plus other sites is fine but since CM only looks at the DLS , it it isn't there, it will not be automatically found. One central location is always easier that searching all over the Web looking for other sites that may or may not still be there.

Did you ever find the missing route. I would like to understand how it got lost since I've never known CM to lose a route. Hiding yes if the favorites option is active. It can also delete a route but you have to tell it to do that.

One other thing to take in to consideration when it come to permissions. Win7 treats the Program Files and Program Files (x86) folders differently from other folders If Trainz is installed in there, it is subject to all the permission rules. I install Trainz on another drive and so avoid all the headaches.

Surely you all have tons of stuff stacked up under various labels in CM that never goes away. Why? Because the thing doesen't work, is quite obvious

I'm looking at my CM v3.6 and after selecting a random asset, I right clicked and picked download. A minute later it was installed and now I see it in Surveyor. It a fine object but I don't need it so it will be deleted. If I thought I might need it I could have just disabled it. That would get it out of the way I wouldn't have to download it again if I need it after all. Now I'll have to download it again.

So finding, downloading, installing and using works.

Are the labels: "Installed", "Today", My Content", etc? I hope they never go away.

Spider, if you know the name of a Trainz (& same other simulators), item you have or had, do a search on your computer. See if that item comes up. Then if a Trainz item comes up, check the path, and see what folder it's in.

Only users with sufficient know-how of how Windows Vista/7 works will be able to run Trainz without using run as admin - this is due to the fact that the standard Windows admin account is locked down in Vista/7, unless the super-administrator is used.

Drive X has its own operating system (WIN 7) (Dual Boot Machine) and TRAINZ 2010 is installed in the Root Directory of Drive X.(not the default Program Directory). In addition, I have a shortcut on the Drive C desktop (original) partition running (WIN XP SP3) so I can access TRAINZ 2010 (Installed on Drive X only) from either Drive. At no time has there been an issue with permissions in accessing TRAINZ 2010 or any of its components from either Drive C or Drive X. This setup has been working flawlessly for approximately 3 months now and my main discovery is that 2010 runs a bit smoother with better frame rates under WIN 7 Ultimate (32 bit). I attribute this to the ability of Win 7 to recognize and use more memory than XP. I have 5MB of RAM installed at the present time. My recommendation: Especially for the computer challenged, do not allow TRAINZ to be installed in the Program Directory of the target drive. Trainz will automatically create a Trainz folder in the Root Directory of the drive and run from there. Just my two cents.

So you have a dual-boot system? Not something the average user is likely to setup. Doesn't the Win7 compatibility mode work well enough or do you need XP for other reasons, just wondering? Putting it in the root instead of the default Program Files is probably a big help in avoiding permission issues. Although, too many root folders is also not a good idea.

Never tried WIN 7 compatibility mode. I do have a number of expensive to replace WIN XP Programs installed such as Photoshop, Office 2000, Textbridge, etc. that Microsoft Technical Assistance told me beforehand that they would probably not work or perform poorly under WIN 7. ( They may have been trying to sell newer versions). I agree, too many root folders are not a good idea. Right now, the only program installed there (root) is Trainz. Call me weird, but my main reason for the partition and WIN 7 is the performance boost for TRAINZ 2010. I routinely get FPS in the 40-70 range as opposed to 20-50 FPS under XP on a fairly modest system. I also have the WIN 7 64 bit disk (both come in the package), but have not seen any need to install it along with additional RAM that it supports.

That sounds good, but the permissions issue varies on multiple things, including the registry. It may well be that launching it from an XP drive may get round that issue.
