I’m sorry, but I’m retiring from Trainz completely. Why? It’s because of my new laptop that keeps crashing and freezing every day. I’m too sad to say anything else, so farewell.

Yes, and you don't try to figure out why it is doing that? Good luck with any other big software you might like to run.my new laptop that keeps crashing and freezing every day.
No… I don’t have enough money for a proper one. Plus, with me leaving, I have no where else to go… (begins to cry)May I ask if you have enough budget for a proper PC?
HA ! I started by being a pinball addict in the early 70's. That's still my favorite drug.........however TRAINZ is even a worse addiction . Just to show how deep this got, I've even moved from one region in the US to another , just to be close to where I was building my Trainz route. ..........that's pretty bad.......and took courage just now to admit it. I should have cried out for help. I'm so ashamed.I have tried 3 times to retire from Trainz in the last few months, and I even wrote/ranted about it. It just does not work. Trainz is by far a drug in my book. You take a little, and then want more and more. Sanity be damned. Sleep be damned. I've been gaming off and on since 1978 (started with PONG), and no game (not Sim City, Final Fantasy VII, Age of Empires, Super Mario Bros., Civilization, Cities: Skylines, etc) has EVER hooked me so deep into idolatry.
Trainz is a curse that I keep coming back to despite all attempts to quit. Trainz is like the movie Freaks. "One of us, one of us, one of us" or "there are no other games, only Zuul."

I am much the same. My current project started back in Trainz version 2004 and is now on its 3rd major upgrade to TRS22/Trainz Plus standard.Im finding myself constantly working on my railroad and adding or changing things all the time. Kind of like the real railroad hobby i guess- about 90% building and 10% running.
My large route is the same age and still runs well. It's been few the wringer a few times with various updates, service packs, and updates and it has held up well overall. At one point I thought I lost the route due to one of my mishaps. I deleted a bunch of pines in the process of thinning out trees in another section and ended up denuding the mountains of every pine on them. With my large route, I was devastated when I discovered this error many months and versions later. At the time I was going to throw it away and then I found a piece I could patch in from a backup and that fixed the old bird and got her flying again.I am much the same. I was always interested in building. My goal right from the beginning was to build a railroad based on a model railroad theme that I started twice and ended up scrapping due to various reasons. With unlimited space, I built my first route based on what the railroad would've been like if it was built in the real world. The route started as 6 baseboards and expanded from there into nearly a 200-mile empire based around a short line that ended up becoming a designated operator after taking over operations of a defunct branch. One thing I'm curious about, though, is what the mix of creators to players is. That is, how many spend their time building routes vs actually running them? At first I was just a player, not really interested in the building aspect, but that is quickly changing and now Im finding myself constantly working on my railroad and adding or changing things all the time. Kind of like the real railroad hobby i guess- about 90% building and 10% running.
Wusses? Making a statement like that is for bigots and narcissists. The usual culprit is heat? The usual culprit is arrogance and ignorance of the issue. In the 21st Century almost everything is vastly more complex than a simple analysis.Giving up is for wusses.
The usual culprit is heat.
I think JCitron wrote it as a joke. He's a great bloke and helps loads of people online, so please calm down! Anyway, reading these other posts, I take it the original poster has had computer issues and previously people have tried to help?Wusses? Making a statement like that is for bigots and narcissists. I am saddened whenever I see anyone giving up because of modern complexity. Everything in this world that is touched by Humanity is arbitrary and almost universally skewed toward those of privilege who already have access to abundance and plenty beyond the average person's comprehension. Not all Human Beings are fortunate enough to have won the genetic lottery. Those fortunate enough to excel in a specific endeavor that enriches him or her beyond all expectation is great for that individual. But what of all the souls that assist them on their journey to untold wealth and privilege! No man or woman is an island. We are all in this together. Thinking and believing otherwise is a fallacy of Biblical Proportions that explains the chaos in this beautiful World we have all been given equally and without prejudice.
I have been involved with computers for over half a century. While computing gave me a career that saved my life, it also nearly destroyed me. Does that make me a Wuss?
All due respect JCitron, and I do apologize for this rant, to you and to the community at large, I empathize with the original creator of this Thread and I am greatly saddened to see anyone leave the Hobby and Trainz simply because of the complexity and nature of technology and how computers are priced and how Trainz is implemented. Not everyone can afford the latest and greatest, and that is a failure of the system "Civilization" has constructed, not the humanity of the individual.
Yes, the serious me was kidding.I think JCitron wrote it as a joke. He's a great bloke and helps loads of people online, so please calm down! Anyway, reading these other posts, I take it the original poster has had computer issues and previously people have tried to help?
To the original poster, just what is the specifications of your new laptop? we need to know the processor it uses, graphics card, if it has one, and memory and hard drive space it has free. As a community, I'm sure someone can help?
And after all this, we still don't know what specs the kid's computer has ... which is where he should have started.
Trouble is Middleton for laptops will run on a fairly low end laptop so how do you define minimum? Remember much of the content is end user created so some will kill any machine but others will run fine.Regardless, it appears someone went and purchased a new computer only to discover it, too, is underpowered for Trainz. As I stated previously, not everyone has won the genetic lottery and is fortunate enough to be able to afford the latest and greatest in computing power. I, myself, am saving for the best computer I have ever purchased, and I have always been one to have a computer with more horsepower than anyone I know, and still, there are aspects about Trainz that leave me wondering will enough ever be enough with these people, and the answer is always a definitive no. So why not simply state the minimum system requirement as a mainframe quantum computer and leave it at that. As I stated a year or two ago, if everyone is so intent on creating reality in a virtual environment, it would be far less grief to simply get up from the computer and walk outside where it is far more beautiful and healthier out there and infinitely less expensive and environmentally friendly and sustainable.
As to "where he (or she) should have started"... I can understand being a New Member having a bad experience and being upset.
