do you have a release date for the route?

i would love to download this one it looks really good. keep up the good work!

Release date? I've only finished about 20% of this layout. I'm picking away at it, but it won't be for some time.

I've just sent the skies off to the DLS...

Nice shot (as always). Those skies look very realistic so I'm glad you sent them to the DLS for us to use. :D

Gisa ^^

Nice shot Fred. Is that a power plant I see in the background? I like it.

BTW, as you know, your route has given me a lot of inspiration! I plan on building a chunk of the CPR Heron Bay Sub: a route that follows Northern Lake Superior way (way) up in Canada. I am thinking of doing a winter version, but seeing the water, cliffs, rocky beaches, etc...in your route made me realize that there is a lot of fun to be had in modelling, driving and taking pics along it.

Keep up the great work!

Thanks, gisa! Well...I'm certainly having a lot of fun with this project. It's very challenging. The challenges, however, spark creativity. I've had to learn to make DEM maps, textures, skies, and now I've taken the plunge into Gmax.

That's the Indian Point nuclear power plant in that shot. I made it like a movie set...a 3D facade. I got my inspiration from dmdrake's low poly background buildings. It's just scenery...the elephant in the room...if you will.

More shots to come...

Cheers,
Fred

My pleasure Fred. I think it's a good idea to make the object like you did. It's easy to forgot that once inside the cab, the distance we can see out is relatively short and details don't really need to be spot on the farther out you get.

Very true, gisa. A detailed model of this facility would be quite out of the question...for security reasons if no other. There are no blueprints available and I, for one, am grateful for that. The Google Earth photos are intentionally blurred, so measurements are very imprecise. I did some research online to create a reasonable facsimile. Gee...I hope I don't get any government goon squads after me...:D

Cheers,
Fred

Great Shots as always Fred!

I have seen several pictures of the Hudson River area over the years and I must say that you have captured this perfectly!

Cheers,

Fantastic work. Does that boat happen to be moving or is the 'splash' behind it just a static animation?

Cheerio,
Nicholas.

May I ask where to get the components in your picture? i am looking for content of that quality.... thanks:hehe:
good day.errr.... night!

As Jim said, the boat is stationary. I used the "steam effect mist" <kuid:78193:5> by cyberstorm which is available on the DLS. I suggest placing the effect first on land because, if you put it in the water to begin with, it will dissappear under the board and you won't be able to see or manipulate it easily. Raise it up in the air so you can move it without losing it. Align the tip of the red arrow with the stern of the boat, then lower it to the desired height (I find 0 to -1m works fairly well) and voila...instant wake. I would think that placing a similar effect at an attachment point on the rear of a driveable boat would work too...hint...hint. Hmmmm...jet ski! ;) By adjusting the rate of emission in the config file you can use it for other things as well.

The Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant is my first attempt in Gmax and isn't available yet. I found some color pictures on the web, made some rectangular boxes from extruded splines, and mapped parts of the photos to the sides of the boxes. Simple, really. (You just have to think "outside the box" :hehe: ) The main facilities are like a movie set. The rather complicated looking stuff in the middle is a photo mapped onto a thin "virtual wall".

Thanks all.

Cheers,
Fred
