Hi All from whecsailor

I am more than likely getting a new job way up in Michican, Thy made mean offer I cannot refuse, :D . It is near Warren, outside of Detroit. and NO MORE running from Hurricanes!! two homes flooded out is enough for me!!

My nearest railroad will be the Huckleberry Railroad.
I see she has former narrow gauge Loco's but is she narrrow gauge???

Is it worth a visit??

Yes and yes :)

Very well maintained equipment. And, they have the only other remaining D&RGW K-27 in operation.

Good luck with the new job and the move.

You also have near you the Henry Ford Museum & Greenfield Village which is worth a visit no matter who you are.

Your closest Amtrak Lin is the Wolverine which runs from Detroit (Pontiac) to Chicago. Or you can head down to Toledo and pick up east bound services there.

Lets see....there is also the Michigan Star Clipper Dinner train near by. I'm unsure of its status as there was talks about it closing, being bought, etc, etc.

I do believe it has been closed down. Or it was another one that closed. I live near Walled Lake. Heck, I used to play paintball down the street, er, tacks at Decker Road almost a mile away.

Now if you up for a drive, the Grand Traverse Dinner Train up north in Traverse City is nice. They have a nice bike path that follows a good part of the track.

I haven't been to the Grand Traverse Dinner Train or Huckleberry Railroad in for ever and a half.

Good luck with your move, and welcome to Michigan. Your going to love the weather.....um...hahahaha....You love the weather for the first 5 minuets.

Its about 86 right now, it might snow tonight for all we know.

I forgot to add this.

If your into live steam, there are the Great Lake Live Steamers in Royal Oak, a 15min drive form the Walled Lake area. I have not been there, but have plans to go some day soon.

If model railroading is more of your thing, then my I suggest Chi Town Union Station. It is a MASSIVE 2 rail O scale display that I volunteer at. Chi Town is in Union Lake, a 5min drive form Walled Lake and 10-15 min form my house depending on what way I go.

All these places are South of Huckleberry Railroad.

But in Flint, I think near Huckleberry Railroad, is a Riders Hobby shop. If your looking to start your own model railroad, or have one, I'd say it's worth the trip. Although the Krispy Kream that was just across the parking lot closed for good Meaning no more tasty doughnuts. Riders has lots of HO, N, O gauge, and G stuff, as well as many other hobbys.

I hate to sound like an advertisment, but I like Riders.

I hope that helps a little.

One more that I forgot about.

The Michigan Steam Railroading Institute in Owosso. The location of Train Festival 2009 in July. And home of Pere Marquette 1225. Its about a 30 min drive form Flint. Here is a link: http://www.trainfestival2009.com/

Now lets hope I dont remember some thing in the next few minutes.
