Morning all, I've ordered Trainz 2010 from Auran, and am waiting on delivery. I have a new computer with the following specs, and was wondering if any of you computer savy folks would know how well it will handle 2010.

HP Pavilion, model p6142p
AMD Phenom 9650 Quad-Core, 2300mhz, 4 cores
Hard Drive is 640 GB SATA 3G (3.0 Gb/sec)
Vista Home Premium 6.0.6002, Service Pack 2
8.0 GB Ram
6.39 GB Ram available
16.0 GB Total Virtual Memory
14.6 GB Available Virtual Memory

Graphics Card
NVIDIA GeForce GT 220
1.0 GB Ram

Monitor is HP 2009m (20")
1600x900x60hrz

I hope I've included enough info for someone to give me an opinion of how well this will perform.

Thanks,
Andy Nickels

Maybe not

Thanks for the reply John,
I'm a die hard old classics windows user.
I actually got this computer last September, and spent two months trying to get Vista to act like I wanted. Even went so far as to get the Windows 7 update disks. Before I upgraded to 7 though, I was able to make Vista start performing like I wanted. 'knock on wood', I havent' had any problems since so I don't know if I'll upgrade to Windows 7. The Vista is 64 bit and 32 bit for some programs I use. Do you think it's worth the time and trouble, and probably some headaches to go to Windows 7?
Thanks,
Andy

Windows 7 is to Vista as XP was to Win ME, it's a vast improvement and it will run a lot of old stuff "out of the box" that Vista wouldn't or not without a lot of messing.

If you have the upgrade lying around I'd upgrade. I think the underlying operating system is much the same but its been cleaned up a bit and the latest drivers are designed to work with Win 7 rather than Vista. They have done a remarkable job on speeding up the time that Windows takes to come up though, but that's a personal preference thing.

If you didn't have Win 7 upgrade disks lying around and Vista was working nicely I might not bother buying the upgrade.

Cheerio John

On back to back fresh installs of Windows 7 64 and Vista/SP2 64 I have not seen very much of a performance difference between the two operating systems with about 15 or so games/sims I run on the two listed machines below.

Between SP2 and the latest Windows updates Vista performs as good as Windows 7. The claims that Windows 7 performs much better then Vista are mostly coming from users who never had Vista installed properly to begin with.

does anyone know if this operating system will run trainz 2010? (or even let me download it)....
processor: celeron(r) dual-core cpu t3000
1.80ghz 1.79ghz

memory: 3 gb

64-bit operating system.

no idea what my graphics card is and not sure if i have sound card.
if it doesn't run it then I'm going to have to give up trainz until i get a new pc which isn't easy since I'm only 13 and don't really have any say in money issues with my parents.

I'm sure it'll run without you having to make much in the way of sacrifices. I feel that your CPU is pretty low-end, but mine isn't much better and TS2010 runs very well on my rig, with less memory, 32-bit XP, and with all the settings cranked up to the max.

Look into what kind of video card you have (or don't have) since that'll make a difference. I don't think Trainz' sound is that great so I don't see a benefit of having a separate sound card; onboard audio is good enough IMO.

whew good news there i was getting a little over worried to the sleepless stage before got to read that post :hehe:
