You could stuff up your entire content if you do something so foolish and unecessary.

Why rename the .im files? They are files internal to the content and will have no relevance to your renaming system The assets need the names the creator gave them, leave them alone.

By the way, opening an .im file is reverse-engineering and any discussion will get you banned from the forum.

FileViewer 3.14.2 from http://users.bigpond.net.au/Creator3D/ will display .pm and .im files in 4 viewing windows like Gmax. Lets you view the meshes and attachment points. The perspective window shows the model with textures, as long as the textures are .bmp or .tga. Older Trainz models with .texture textures will not be textured. None the less it is a great viewing tool. You can't reverse engineer with this version, its for viewing only.

would you like to re-read what i wrote
i do not wish tor reverese engineer anything
NOR do i wish to alter .IM files

i merely wish to view them so that i know what it looks like without having to go from cmp into surveyor for every object

Your post could be read several ways. I read it this way.

You start with

i am in the process of renaming all of my files.

and then you ask about .im files, it is natural to assume that the .im files are included in your 'all' that you want to rename. If that is not the case then please ignore my post. Your intention was not clear.

Don't forget good old Trainz Object Explorer (TOE) which was available from the TrainzLuvr site (I hope it still is). I think it handles .im files but not .pm files

TOE sometimes can read textures that FileViewer has trouble with, so it's worthwhile having both viewers on hand.

Did you also know that you can 'point' Trainzobjectz to the location of either the TOE or Fileviewer exe files so that you can view whatever object is currently selected in Trainzobjectz? Very handy when you're re-naming objects. Unless of course, you are using TRS2006/CMP, which can't do this.
