How to use or configure 08 signals ...

Dear Trainz community,

could anyone of you give examples how to use signals type 08 ?
--> for US routes ( maybe Searchlight or Safetran signals )

I have no idea for which situations we have to use signal 08.
-> would be really helpful to see some situations and how the 08 signals are configured...

I hope you can help me...

greetings

I exclusively use JR smart searchlight signals. The 08 interlock signal is for complex switching. In the properties of the signal you'll see an icon and check boxes. The icon is the direction of a diverge (blueish purple) and the green is the normal path.

You set the direction of the diverge, and add more as needed. Next is the check boxes. If using this for a yard entrance choose can display a restricted indication. Depending on the next signal it sees it can display the following:

Red over yellow over green (slow approach restricted)
Red over red over lunar white (restricted)

Both are 15mph maximum through areas like a yard.

I also use two head dwarf signals set to restricted (lunar white) with the icon showing a dotted outline for the diverge at each switch.

The lunar white aspect tells you it isn't detecting rolling stock or loco even if there is. So you won't get the passing at danger alert. This works if you want yard signalling.

Yards don't necessarily use entrance signals, just on the exits, but l do like visual indication that my switches are pointing correctly.

The Safetran smart signal does the same thing, but I never use them because they are not appealing to my eyes. Also those signals do not have the single red on top with dual 3 aspects below as in real life.

Thank you "skittlekicks", your info will help me... (y)

If you have screenshots how you did signalling on your routes, I would appreciate to see them...

Thank you

Hopefully these show up for you:

It is a bit tricky to get this one right. Off in the distance I have an 06 set up with the lunar white displayed on the bottom aspect which activated the 08 into what you see displayed. I don't have the route this was on, and forgot to look at the properties when I captured this image.

Not sure why the 08 doesn't use the transparent diverge icon as the 06 does. You do have to activate the restricted on for this to work. Hold the left ctrl button and right click on the signal to view the details in Driver. You have to enable editing to save the changes. Normally this is an Approach Limited aspect (Red/Yellow/Red) without the lunar white active.

This is how I configure the dwarf signal (this also control the inner yard tracks.

You have to make sure the consists are facing away from the signal (change direction so the red arrow is facing you) otherwise it will stay red and will state the an oncoming train is blocking the track).

You are welcome.

Remember these are smart signals from Jointed Rail in the freeware section of their website. Not all signals have these features. Look for the ones created by norfolksouthern37 and wearsprada. I think there are a few on the DLS, but you will get a bigger selection on JRs site.

Your middle image shows signal S84..... I am not finding the JR type that that one is (I know that S84 is not the JR name for it) - but can you tell the JR name for it so I can see exact which one is working for you this way?

I name my signals (I don't leave it's default Signal 123445657 name), and that is what you see. Just go to Jointed Rail's website, and download the searchlight signal pack from there.

I have the whole pack down loaded. I was trying to see if the S84 signal was JR SL (08) or JR SL (06) or 06d, etc..... TIA

S84 is NOT a signal. I use the naming field in Surveyor to change it's default Signal ######. That's it.

It the same thing for junctions. I just change the field name from junction ##### to what i want

The 08 is just interlock signal in the pack. Just like the 06 is a considered a home signal, the 06d is a distance signal, the 05 is a permissive signal, and the 04 is an absolute or check signal.
